My son got a real thrill last week. The Chief MSgt of the Air Force came to Ellsworth and junior was assigned to interview him. Then his article got posted by HQ USAF at www.af.mil . At the end of the day, the CMsgt presented junior with his USAF CMSGT Challenge Coin. He couldn't be more proud to be wearing the blue. :patriotic-flagwaver

Cool! I'll be heading out to Nashville on Thursday for the Airlift Tanker Association annual conference and the CMSAF (Chief Roy) is supposed to be there - I think - and I may get a chance to meet him. Actually, I'm more excited to meet the "Candy Bomber" Col. (Ret.) Gail Halvorsen. That's one seminar I will definitely be at!

I met Chief Msgt USAF Thomas N. Barnes through my Chief (Richard Fisher) at Andrews in 75-77 and the Pentagon. He was an extremely impressive man. He had a knack for remembering names that was fantastic. The first meet was when Gen John Toomay and Col Ziernecki re-enlisted me at the Pentagon in 1975. Gen Toomay had been a neighbor in Rome NY during his stint at Griffiss. I went to school with his son Tim and knew his other son Pat. I recall he embarrassed me at lunch after my re-enlistment. He reminded me how years earlier I had chowed on Cheerios with his kids on Saturday mornings watching cartoons at his house. It's funny now it wasn't then. AJ Edit: typo
