My son has an aircraft maintenance business at Livermore CA. airport. One of the services he provides is aircraft recovery. One Friday in May 2005 a T28 Trojan was flying just north of the city of Livermore, when its engine blew! The pilot was able to land safely on a rural road. Between the California Highway Patrol and the FAA the decision was made to tow the T28 back to Livermore airport. This was going to involve a 2 mile journey on busy I580 from the North Livermore Rd. on ramp to the Airway Blvd. exit My son was called to perform the tow. That is his F150 pickup in the photos. Note the speedy dry on the road beneath the engine cowl. 3PM Friday, Eastbound on I580!

Nice pictures. It's great the pilot could set it down and save the old bird.

:thumbsup Great pictures.
It looks like it was getting about time for the Noon traffic crush on the 580 when the pictures were taken. I can only imagine the number of cars following the T28 south to Livermore. Fifteen miles per hour for as far as it had to be towed, must have been fun. Would loved to have seen it, but not been in the crush behind it. Never worked on the T28, just saw them around, and saw the guys, Thai and USAF from NKP work over the area to the East of the base at Ubon. Made a pretty effective ground support plane.

That's normal traffic for most of the day. In fact, I'm a little surprised that it doesn't look like that in the other direction, especially given what is going on.
