On 16 August 1977, Elvis Presley died in Memphis, Tennessee.
Where were you on that day?
De and I, with our two youngest daughters were on I 94, somewhere between Dickinson, ND and Bismarck, ND.
I was not a fan and it was just something sad to know that he died so young, for the wrong reasons.
Jim

Thangu.. Thangu vera much...
I was in my home town of Memphis at a company business meeting. The news came as a complete shock. I looked out the window at about 3 PM and most of the cars on the freeway had their lights on in honor of the King.
A sad day.

Waiting for the call from the Air Force recruiter, to say I could leave for basic earlier than projected. Didn't come still left on the Friday before Labor day weekend!!! If I could do it all over again I would definitely change the day I left, couldn't wait to get my hair cut and into a uniform!!

I was in the 318th FIS McChord AFB, WA. Don't recall the day. Just know what state I was in.

Yea, I'm a fan. Just ask my kids what station is always on the Sirius radio in my truck. Channel 13 - The Elvis Channel.
I was 13 and delivering newspapers on the former Larson AFB housing where I lived. (Dad used to be stationed there in the '50's and we moved there when he got out of the service.) One of my customers came outside and told me Elvis died. I rushed the rest of my route and went home to watch the news on TV.
My younger brother was a bigger fan than I was and we had actually been talking in the weeks preceding his death if we could talk our folks into taking us to Spokane to see him in concert if he came. I remember my brother and I waiting to watch his movies and listening to his albums. I don't know why but in the 70's my favorite movie was Fun in Acapulco. These days it's a toss up!
