On 15 August 1969 the biggest "hippie" gathering that ever was, took place in a farmers pasture outside of Woodstock, New York. It was "The Summer of Love", at least for some people. Woodstock still lives in the memory of many people as the defining event of their lives. I'm sure if all the people who claimed they were there, were to gather in one place, there wouldn't be enough room. Many say they were, but never got close.
I have a question for all of you:
Where were you on 15 August 1969?
I happened to be at DaNang, Republic of Viet Nam, working in Maintenance Control in the 366th Tactical Fighter Wing, the Gunfighters.
Jim

Hehehe. I was at Chaunte planning a fast road trip (No passes). We hopped in a classmates 442 and drove like hell to NY. Barely made it back, but we did undiscovered... until a week later. Woodstock turned into the woodshed for us at Chanute. : AJ

I got drafted by the Army a week before and was now on the delayed enlistment program. Driving a truck and waiting for a call from the AF.

(notice I didn't say "tarmac") The Old Sarge MEANT TO SAY: AFTER THE TREATMENT BY HIPPIES AT OAKLAND INT AIRPORT, I COULD HAVE CARED LESS IF THEY WOULD HAVE ALL OVERDOSED.................

I was seven years old--so my guess is that I was Howard AFB Panama (Panama Canal Zone) where my father was stationed. Not sure of the exact dates for when we moved into base housing. We may have been living off base for that date.

That is easy for me. I was there. Not in Woodstock but past it a few times. My grandparents, Uncle, and cousin all had dairy farms in Wayne County, Pennsylvania. My Dad and I had to pass Yaskers Farms on NY Rt. 17B to get to the farms. Woodstock was between Fosterdale and Monticello, NY. The family farms were 18-20 miles west just across the Delaware River. There were some very strange folks around Woodstock. There were also plenty of NY State Police.
