:patriotic-flagwaver When Apollo 11 landed on the Moon, in the Sea of Tranquility. I was at DaNang Air Base, Republic of Viet Nam on that momentous day. I heard the broadcast of the landing and the next day the first steps on the Moon on AFN. What a very special day. Where might some of you been on that day? Jim :god_bless_usa

I was in Tech school at Chanute for the launch. That weekend I went to Chicago's OLd Towne section and watched the steps on an old BW TV with a few friends. It was a birthday weekend I will remember. On the 24th, my 20th B-Day I sat in the Airmens club at Chanute having a few birthday 3.2's and watching the Apollo 11 recovery.
Seven years later close to my birthday again I got to meet the three astronauts at the thne new Air and Space Museum VIP opening as an AF Media Representative. Mike Collins (Gen ret) was the first Director of the A & S and I got to know him pretty well from the P-40 I helped restore for the museum at Andrews AFB.
The landing thrilled me, but to actually meet the men was awesome. As a kid I was an absolute space freak (Nerd). Never did I imagine on July 20th I'd meet the three. So outside the Kennedy Assasination the Landing of Apollo 11 is one of the tops of days I remember as if they were yesterday.

I was at my cousin's house watching it live. Three days later, I was 20 and on Nov 7, I was in the AF. I was then and still am fascinated with space travel. The strange thing is that I didn't know anything about Apollo 13 when it was happening. I was in Thailand and in my own little world.

I was 5 years old. We were at my grandparent's (my mom's folks) house in Chelan, Washington. They lived just up the street but we had to go there because we didn't have a television. I distinctly remember my Dad telling me that this was very important and we had to watch it. In fact, we didn't get a TV in our house until 1973. It was a very big deal but honestly, I don't think I missed much. Not having a TV that is. After all, if it was important, we went to Grandma's house.
I remember watching the Watergate hearings at Grandma's house too!

I was at Naha AFB, Okinawa in the Airman's Club. Had just returned from TDY at Cam Rahn Bay. They had a TV in the bar and the place went wild when Neil stepped on the Moon and said the famous words. Three months later I was a civilian in Memphis, TN and started a 30 year career at Xerox Corp.

He was a tech rep for years then ran his own service company when they stopped leasing the machines. Eventually he just went into his own model and hobby shop business. That's pretty cool! Thanks for that! Mark

I was 10 years old and we were living in Turkey at the time we had to read it in the paper.
We knew about it the night before because dad was the 1st Sgt of the communications Sq and when he came home he told us about it.

I was on leave between tech school and my first base. I watched well into the night at my parents home. I was just awe struck that men had finally made it to the moon. One of those "I will never forget" moments. I am following the real-time rebroadcast at www.Wechoosethemoon.org now.

This is waaay too kewl--makes me feel like a young pup :king
I was at Howard AFB Panama in base housing family quarters watching the event being played over and over again on AFRTS television. Not sure exactly where I was when it was live--I must have been in the first grade, 'cause in that house I know my kid brother was in kindergarten.

Although bullhunter's post may have been in jest, perhaps the proper place to have been posted would have been "The Anything Goes"... That way when you click onto any of the threads, you would loose your right ( ? ) to not be offended by any comment, true or otherwise concerning the political conditions in the US at the present time............This does not mean that bullhunter would loose his right to voice his opinion, just change the location he posts it.......... Thus daoleguy ventures in there at his own perile and should not be offended by what he read because he elected to open the post........ So to keep peace in here lets all restrict our political commentary to Anything Goes............ You can referrence your post there and if anyone is curious about what you said there, he has to go after it........ HOLD on daoleguy - stick around here- I enjoy your postings too much to have you drop out.............. The Old Sarge

I regret the link above I posted that has met with objection. It was only posted in jest. Has no reflection on the brave men who went to the moon and back. Aj, I'm sorry. :cry

I was a sophmore in high school and glued to my parents' TV. If memory serves it was past 10pm because they let my younger sisters stay up to watch. At the time I think it was more exciting for me than historic. Like it was just the begining of something that I took for granted would keep going for a long time. If I'd known they were going to shut Apollo down early and not go back, I might have thought differently.
