Last night I had lots of time on my hands so I got on goggle maps and looked at U.S. Air Force Bases. I checked bomber bases I knew off and found all the EWO Alert Pads empty except one which I think was at Minot AFB, ND. Their EWO Alert pad had maybe 6 or 7 B-52's parked.
Maybe others can find EWO Alert Pads with bombers on them.

Maybe others can find EWO Alert Pads with bombers on them. We kissed and made up with the Russians then SAC went away in 1993 and that was pretty much that! Seriously, think of all the northern-tier, bomber bases that are gone now. Minot is the only one left up there with B-52s and Ellsworth is the next closest with B-1s. Other than that we have Barksdale (B-52's), Whiteman (B-2s) and of course Dyess (B-1s). Whiteman and Dyess don't even have "Christmas Trees" for alert bombers. And if I had to guess, Minot was doing an exercise or something when that Google Earth photo was taken. They just don't "sit alert" anymore unless they are doing a SIOP exercise. BTW, here is a very outdated list of SAC bases. (It still shows B-1's at McConnell and Robins and missiles at Grand Forks. Those are long gone. Shoot, even the tankers will be gone from Grand Forks here in a couple years. It's supposed to become a UAV base.) In any event you can see the closed bases and what used to be there. www.strategic-air-command.com/bases/0-base-homepage2.htmMark

Don't know if you already heard, but USAF is standing up a new command as we speak. A reaction to N.Korea and also the nuke faux paux that got Mosley a ticket home. It's called the Strategic Command. All the nuke capable bombers and ICBMs will swing under it. Apparently that will not include the B-1. Suppose to be active this fall. HQ is TBD but I believe Barksdale is the front-runner. One of their priority must do's is the refurb and new build of alert facilities that had virtually gone to rust.

Looking at goggle maps I saw some very nice looking EWO Alert areas or what some people call Christmas tree pads. Fresh cement without oil spots on them. Wish I had saved all the links now. Check out Minot AFB. Southeast end of runway. Eight B-52's in EWO Alert area. Go to: maps.google.com/type in Minot AFB and any other base then zoom in

The Secretary of the Air Force released the roadmap for the Air Force Strategic Command on Oct 24, 2008. The USAF has been re-evaluating the nuke mission since last fall based on an independent task force report that the Air Force’s nuclear mission fall under one major command. The plan is to rename the Air Force Space Command to the Air Force Strategic Command who would be held accountable for the efficacy of the nuclear mission began this year.
There is currently a United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) which was formed in 2002 and is located at Offutt Air Force Base. USSTRATCOM is one of nine unified commands and serves as the command and control center for U.S. strategic forces and military space operations. It's responsible for early warning against missile attack and the launch of missiles in response.
