:patriotic-flagwaver This is some information I came across while looking for something else. Griffiss was a prime target during the cold war according to de-classified Russian documents. Rather than strike the base, they intended to drop the big one in Delta lake and causing it to vaporize and rain radio active water over a hundred mile radius. Just thought this might be of interest to those who were stationed there. Bill Price

We knew we were a target, I didn't know about the lake tho. Probably would have been more of a danger because of flying junk lying at the bottom of it.

All SAC bases were primaries as were all MAJCOM HQs. Plattsburg was on the list as well. The lake's an interesting twist. Don't know why it would have been any worse than a ground burst throwing dirt for miles. Dead is dead. But if true, my guess is they picked the lake because it was easier to hit.
