I have an Alumni Database up and running. It's easy to find with links right on the main F-106 Delta Dart homepage. Some of the database functions you can now do from right within the website itself without linking elsewhere, which I find appealing. Some of the advantages of this new database are: The Change Request will probably be one of the first things I get you 'volunteers' to handle for me. As soon as I finish with all of this I will give a couple of you the new e-mail address access info, and the database admin logon account so you can: - Check Mail
- Change database info as necessary
If you haven't yet, REGISTER!! Pat

Well Jim? What did you think of the Registration process? Easier, harder, convenient, inconvenient? During my testing I liked be able to do everything from within the website.
I do notice the pages load a bit slow, but that's because of the size our database is growing to, over 1800 now.

I added a new Data Change Request page today, adding a form to the page to fill out and submit. I think it fits the 'easier' approach of doing things, and looks good.

That's still not something everybody can do on their own.

Hi Pat, Excellent changes to the database! Just one question: www.f-106deltadart.com/database-register.htmOn the F-106 Database Links are the Register Here and Sign-In links the same or do you have a different use in mind for them? Thanks Pat Perry 456th FIS

Thanks Pat Perry 456th FIS Yes, good point Pat. They are for two different purposes, and if you click the Sign-in you can't do anything but view the database, but it may be confusing as-is. While Sign-in can be used and viewed by anyone (it's harmless if you're in there poking around), it's really going to only be used by a small group of people, Administrators mostly. What I'll do is change the color of that link, maybe gray it out so it's not so prominent. What do you think of the links on all the FIS pages and Alumni pages? I wanted to get them all pointing to each other. And by using 'iframes' I am able to include things like the Search function and the total registered for each page/unit.

Pat,
I understood very little of what you were talking about in your last post so I went to review what was there (and it still made little sense to me) when it struck me that it might be nice to have a way to see who was in the same squadron at the same time. I only recognize one name from the 27th when I was there, but after 40 years maybe thats all one should expect.

Tom Dlugosh In the original Alumni database of about 5 years ago I actually had a data field where you could enter the years you were in the unit. Using that method I could filter who was in the unit by year, but it was a management nightmare because nobody really used those fields as I intended. So it become a mute point. Subsequant databases, this one inlcuded, I eliminated those fields. Maybe it's time to put them back???

Pat,
I wouldn't add anything that would be and administrative problem. I could see where someone would be in multiple squadrons as a sixer (or otherwise) and just put in a date that would cover the entire time period etc. Let sleeping dogs lay. I just thought it would be helpful if you were looking for those who were in a paticular squadron at a given time.

WOW! I must say I love the response to the database activity. I check the Recently Registered page daily and notice some great activity there. Granted some guys are registering a second time, but no worries I can clean up the data later. Just having it visible and easy to use seems to be getting attention. Thanks everybody! Pat

8-)Hang in thier Tom. I was at Loring in 1960 to 63. You remember the Moosehead beer and Grang Falls. Plus the Bootlegers in Canada when we could get beer after the Gov. package store was closed.. The 30 foot snow banks that needed to be painted so you could tell them from the white roads that never melted? You remember Larry Powel ( my room mate) who turned his 56 ford conv. over and got killed comming back from Madawaska at 2am. Jumping off the roof of the baracks into the 20ft snow banks? Loved it and hated it...Best years of my life!!!!
