Lots of memory refreshing from my Loring days regarding 106 incidents. A couple more: 034 (I believe, Bill can correct me if I'm wrong) was in the ready pods and one of the ground crew drove a wing jack up through the wing and into a fuel cell. After the resulting fire was extinguished by the f.d. the plane was deemed unflightworthy, canibalized, cosmetically rebuilt and repainted for static display at the Air Force Academy in CO Springs. Tail no. unknown taxiing into a ready pod being guided by ground crew. Just about in when the top foot or two of the tail is ripped off by the door that was not open all of the way. That one was fixed. One more; one of our sixes took off for a sortie, immediately circled around and as he passed the flight line getting ready to touch down we noticed red streamers from the main landing gear attached to the gear safety locks still in place. He had no idea what was going on. :

We had the same thing happen with one main gear on an F-16 once in the Va Air Guard. Kinda made me glad I wasn't a crew chief!

I was at Loring from 1962 to early 65 and recall at least three incidents of a 106 being towed into the barn with the door only partially up. A very costly error was made when a crew put just the forward set of armament bay door locks on and walked off to find more. A MA-1 type did a manual door close. The results weren't pretty. And who could forget one of the B models, 514?, returning early one morning dragging the wiring from the radio/tacan compartment which was gone in flight.

I went from the 49FIS to the 57FIS (Keflavik Iceland) and we had several incidents there, many due to icy conditions, but the worst was watching an F-4E being towed OUT of a pod, on weekend duty, and seeing the top of the tail being torn off on the pod door. Lots of paperwork and a couple stripes lost, lucky for me i was towing the first plane out and not that second one.
