I am looking for some clarity on an SIX incident at Loring in Sept '65; a few years before my time there. 59-041 Crashed I believe on takeoff and skidded almost into some buildings (Weather Det OPS?). I belong to another forum, groups.yahoo.com/group/Loring_AFB/ , and the description of the event seems vague. From what I heard 041 burned, but some recounted no fire. Anyone here there then and know more, maybe with pics other then Pat already has? The thread perked my curiousity. Anyone know what happened? If the AC burned what from and how about the pilot? Apparently the crash rattled some troops nerves in the small builing because it stopped so close. Thanx AJ

Thanx AJ AJ, There were actually 2 different incidents of aircraft crashes on takeoff during my time at Loring, ie Dec '63 to Nov '66. One of them was 59-041 and it went to the right or east side of the runway and all most hit the com shack as shown in the photo's of 59-041 lineage. This aircraft was on fire during the crash and continued to burn after the crash. Two airmen and a sergeant were credited with saving the pilot, Capt. Brown, from the burning aircraft! See the newspaper articles with the photos at 59-041's lineage page or at the Loring Fire Department's page loringfire.com/Aircraftcrashes2.htmlThe second incident is very hazy in my memory! In this one 59-036??? had a strut failure on takeoff and veered toward a weather shack on the left or west side of the runway. In this one there was no fire but the aircraft was foamed and the damage was relatively light. Browsing through the 27th aircraft lineage pages I can find no mention of a damaged aircraft that matches these facts. I am very unsure of the aircraft's tail number. This is the incident that mummy referred to (I think).

Thanx wmh131, still curious about this. I know of 036, but nothing on 041. 036 was an Open House incident if I recall. Anyone else here know anything?
Thanx AJ
BTW wmh131 was that you on the Loring board? It was in a thread drifting from Loring weather.

I think the second bird Bill is referring to was 039. Tom Sorry Tom, 039 crashed in Oct '63 before I got to Loring. She went down in a potato field near Van Buren. Bill

Could be 039. I didn't get to Loring until 69 and heard probably third hand of a SIX crashing at an Open House. Gear failure if I recall. Still curious on 041, that one I never heard about.
Thanx AJ

Back a while ago you posted a picture with an aerial view of the 27th flightline at Loring. Do you know about when that picture was taken? Bill

Bill, what I know of the image is it was around '69-'70. Judging from the Nosedock views that is about correct. I tried with PS to enlarge and enhance the image. I was partially lucky and could make out vehicles parked there. Looked like the correct timeframe.
