Please note that we have lost a member here. Ron Kollas of Fredricktown, Ohio. Member name here was Thud. An AFCS dude who was one of the first I met here on the forum so many years ago and then a few years ago in person when we were on our way to Michigan. He was also one of the first to receive a clock from me.. I only found this out when I got "failed to deliver" email notice yesterday and again today. He was buried with military honors on 25 June 2013....... Read more: forum.f-106deltadart.com/thread/4171/chris-kyle-seal-sniper#ixzz2XwEt8sGu

Please pray for "Thud's" wife and family.
Marilyn has been confined to a wheeled chair for some time and is not in good health.
"Thud" was always a delight to communicate with, but in recent months had been pretty much out-of-contact.
He will be missed.

Ron Kollas was a good man. I had left the 456th FIS for Okinawa in early 68 so I never got a chance to meet him in person. Let's let Ron tell the story. May he rest in peace. Pat P.

Yep, Pat:
I'm well aware of the upcoming reunion, but other family plans take precedence! I've been exchanging Email with Bruce Gookin & Jim Arnold for quite some time now, so heard about it months ago.
If all goes as planned, by this time next week I'll be on my way to old Chanute AFB Illinois for a mini-reunion with Jim Arnold, John Slover (another X F106 crew dog from the 5th FIS), & 2 other buddies from my F105 days in Germany & Southeast Asia.
See from the time you spent with the 456th, you didn't join the traveling circus it became. I was actually assigned to the 456th at Castle when Dow AFB Maine closed in June of 68. Believe it or not, I was mowing my lawn in quarters for the last time when 2 of our 75th FIS pilots drove up & asked me where I was going. Told them the 456th at Castle. They said, "Oh no, it's being transferred to Oxnard". So while the movers were loading my furniture into the moving van, I was back at the base getting my orders amended. So I was already at Oxnard AFB when the 456th arrived!!! From there we moved to Kingsley Field Oregon in Dec of 69, & in 71 moved to Grand Forks AFB North Dakota!!!
I left the F106 program when the digital AFCS was installed in 73. From Grand Forks to Castle (believe it or not, but to SAC. Was there when the 84th FIS moved into the old 456th area when Hamilton AFB closed. Then on to Zaragosa AB Spain, to Rickenbacker AFB Ohio where I retired in 77.
I now live about a 2 hour drive from the Air Force Museum. My son Bill & I are going to take grandsons CJ & Terry down there this summer again. Last time they got in the F16 & F4 cockpit mockups & had to about drag them out!!!
By the way, I don't see your name registered on the 456th Alumni page of Pats World!
Cheers Ron "Slim" Kollas MSGT USAF ret

I lost my Brother of 70 years last week to cancer. He was in and out of the hospital for a year and a half. Was in hospice for 4 days. He was never in the military but was sure proud of his Brother and all of the people in uniform. God Bless you Brother and hand salute. You are in Gods loving hands.

I'm so sorry to learn about the passing of your brother, and of Ron. I met Ron once at Rickenbacker ANG Base when I was working there full-time around 2001. We emailed frequently, and I was lucky to meet his son Jeff when I got stationed at Dyess. Prayers to both families...

Adart, I'm saddened to hear about your brother passing away.
Seventy seems pretty young, but cancer doesn't care how old someone is.
Praying for you and the rest of your family during this very difficult time.
Did he live in your area?
