The callsign of our Fresno Air National Guard F-106's was Papa November. Does anyone know the callsigns of Montana'a ANG 186th FIS and/or the 87th FIS from Sawyer AFB (The Red Bulls)? For those interested the calsign for 106's from the 5th FIS at Minot ND was Yanlkee Victor. The callsign for the 106's from Castle AFB in the mid 1980's was Alfa Hotel. Any help you may be able to provide would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!

I'll go back to the 87th FIS in Duluth and later in K.I Sawyer. I used our call signs for ground radio checks and to contact the local tower for clearances, weather info, etc. Also used the same call sign to contact Minneapolis Center for radio checks. That call sign was "LIMA HOTEL" Now that was for general use. When the 87th was at Tyndall for live fire the call sign was reversed "HOTEL LIMA" was used. I'm not 100 percent certain if the pilots used those call signs while airborne. I did run across a listing of ALL call signs for the ADC use and noticed that the call signs were reversed for certain activities - for instance normal DEFCON situations and more adverse DEFCON situations.
SOMEWHERE I have more written down for the other squadrons I was involved with. Most of the "6's" had a small tab riveted to the instrument panel that gave the call sign for each individual aircraft.
Any more info for now will have to wait. I need a nap!

From the Tazmainian Devil Back in the deltaeocene the call signs were assigned to the daily missions with a two letter alpha prefix as Duluth was LH, Langley was MG, while the 01 was reserved for the first flight, or the LH went with the tail number to correlate with the Mode coded to integrate with the GCI/SAGE ETC unless TDY then....and when TDY 01 was reserved for the boss unless......but during exercises such as run by CINCLANT or TAC we would be assigned global callsigns.....duhh, like ERGOT, FUGMUP, or LAFMO? But in ACT or BFM we would go with colors, red, green, but avoided names like peusse, pink, or mauve!? Hell, I can't remember except that the commander of TAC put out the word that during aerial engagements we should never use first names!! but in the most critical wartime situations it was routine to call a fellow fighter by the first name as it was an overwhelming influence of a combination of human nature and adrenaline. Dick The Old Sarge and from M Ross Shulmister: I'm still trying to remember all my InterNet passwords, and some of them are only weeks old.
