Steve Stephens passed away on 19 Aug 2012 at 7:03 pm.
This thread was started by Steve himself when he initially went to the hospital on 2 Jul 2012. The message from his wife Marsha telling of his passing is posted on Page 7. This entire thread now serves as his memorial. Our prayers are with you and your family Marsha. REST IN PEACE STEVE.
for the athiests...a kind thought would be appreciated...
let me start back a few months ago ...we lost our sheltie to cancer and the wife was heart broken...so...we got a pup sheltie that came to us with giardia...an intestinal track bug that took us awhile to get her cleaned out....of course she's a licker and was licking me and anything else in sight....so...I started suffering from a stomach bug...I thought..... it went on for about a month or so and I finally was dragged screaming by the wife to the walk in...idiot doc said I was blocked up and take ex-lax....well..it worked at clearing me but the pain got worse..so...had some blood work done and found out that they don't know what the heck is wrong with me..I was sent to a a gastroenterologist, oncologist, xray for ct scans....and they still don't know what the heck is wrong... so..tomorrow I go in for an endoscopy and colonoscopy....
so for those with the gift of prayer...I'd appreciate any thing...
as soon as I know anything..I'll try and post it here....
thanks
Steve

Did they do a small bowel scan? If you have ever had intestinal surgery before it's possible you have an attachment which causes a restriction in the small bowel. Like a tight u-turn or hose kink where the outside of the small bowel grows together. These are common after intestinal surgery and they warn you before surgery that it could happen again due to surgery. I think attachments can even happen without prior surgery. I had colon cancer resection (11 inches) in 2004. In the years later, I had occasional severe abdomen pain that would only lessen when when I lied down. Episodes lasted a day or two until the blockage subsided through laxatives and not eating. I had to have small bowel scans twice before they found the problem. The first scan was after an episode and the second was done during an episode when they found the problem. I went back for surgery in 2010 to fix the small bowel attachment and they also removed a calcified fecal stone that was acting like a check valve at the small orfice leading from the small bowel to the colon entrance. The stone was probably created over time by the upstream attachment restriction. No more abdomen pain now. Good luck with the colonoscopy and don't worry if they find some polyps to remove. That's the reason they do these procedures in order to find and remove problems that lead to cancer later. Pat P.

Got you in our prayers Steve.... The Old Sarge and Sandy
Doctors don't like self- diagnosis, or from some one who isn't a Dr. BUT, Pat's suggestions have a hell of a lot of merit. Suggest to your Dr that he pursue it......

Got you covered. BTW I just had my 3rd colonoscopy. Had one at 50 years old, another at 55, and I'm a few months shy of 60. The new prep package isn't that tough anymore. Works quick and they give you flavor packs to put in the drink solutition. This new liquid drink does not make you butt hole burn like before. Toilet paper will make you raw so use some baby wipes. Helps allot. take care & God Bless.

I got the below note from Steve's wife, Marsha. She gave me permission to post the information on Steve. Please continue to pray for Steve. Pray, too, for Marsha, as she is exhausted. Jim Too ] :god_bless_usa --------------------------- Steve got home about 2:30 and is in bed asleep now. They did not see anything in the upper GI but he did have 4 ulcers in the colon which could possibly be causing him to be anemic because of bleeding. The Dr. took biopsies and will hopefully have the results in the next day or two. He is currently thinking Steve has Crohns disease which is a total shock since he does not seem to have hardly any of those symptoms. Unfortunately they said it will be a long process to get him to feeling better and the Dr. does not like pain killers so he would not prescribe any. He said if he wants to take them he can take what he has but will not get any more for him. I just pray they are able to do something soon since we’ve been to ER twice in five days for the pain etc. Any way Steve asked that I email you and let you know how he’s doing. I’m sure he’d love to hear from you although if you prefer to call you may want to wait till tomorrow. He was actually checking his email in the recovery room )
Take care

Awful sorry about that news. I hate doctors that decline to give pain meds for people in pain. God bless to you both.

iv been dealing with degenerative artrithis in my neck and shoulders for about six months now and the pain gets worse at nite for some reason...my doc gives me all kinds on pain and spasm meds and they dont come close to cutting it... the only stuff that ever did anything was morphine sraight up... and the only time i ever got that was in the vein, over nite in the hospital... i can only imagine the kind of pains steves having... all ican can say is "hang in there"....and when your able get on the 'on the range' thread and discuss your latest black rifle... listening to you guys talk about it is getting me interested.... iv been thinking hard... im not much of a 5.56 fan...i shot the gau-5 back in the 70's and all i can remember was an overheated weapon( shot it mostly on full auto) and sore thumbs from packing the rounds in the mags... a prayers goes out nitely Steve, have a good day

i'm one of those lucky few who has no tolerance for painkillers, not even regular strength aspirin. i dont wish it on anyone but sometimes pain can be controlled in other ways. if the pain is the worst, and the ulcers are the real and only problem, you're a lucky man my friend. keep fighting it all, whatever it is. and you'll heal in time.
what the heck, God aint gonna deal you more than you can handle. thank the Lord for what you have and pray for his comfort.

thanks all for the well wishes and prayers....this has been one tough fight.....
marsha has had her super hearing up to 10 and every little noise she catches (which 99% of I can't hear), she's up at the foot or side of the bed asking if I'm ok......
anyway..tomorrow we should get some lab results back and know more which direction to head.....boy yesterday was tough...I was seriously thinking of eating a bullet but the noise would upset her superhearing......plus I'd have to know exactly where either of my 2 braincells were located in order to make a kill shot!!!...just kidding......
but yesterday wasn't a good day.......at first I thought this is something I'd wish on my ex-wife....but now I'm starting to think that I wouldn't even wish this on her...........
thanks again for all the well wishes and prayers...greatly appreciate it......
keep those cards and letters comin....
and gene...I wasn't a big fan of the black rifles either until they came out with the m4...then that's been the one thing I'd wanted but didn't want to spend the 2-3 grand for one...found an amorer that built 2 for me ...1 for 745 out the door and the other for 880 out the door....they are AWESOME....anytime you can make it up here...(once I'm out of doc's care)...I'd be honored to have you as a guest at the local gun range..
Steve

Steve, I have added you to my prayer list. I believe prayer is a very effective tool. Good luck to you and I hope they give you something for the pain. It sounds like you have a very caring wife. Cherish that. It also will help you heal. Mike
