Hey guys, Here's a question posed to Erv Smalley and me from Doug Barbier (former fighter pilot now driving heavies). See if you can help us out. Pat Perry 456th FIS
Doug's question: Guys, I'm trying to put together a list of the old Interceptor 'Alpha' Call Signs & wonder if you can remember any off the top of your heads? F'rinstance, the Six Pack at Selfridge were the JL or Juliet LIma's. How about any of the other units? Consider this your winter 'brain teaser' & thanks for your help.

Well I can say that at Duluth/K.I. - the old 11th FIS had call signs of "Hotel Lima" or as they reversed it when over the gulf at Tyndall on a fire mission it became "Lima Hotel" I have a list of old codes we used at Duluth, SOMEWHERE!! At Hamilton with the 84th I believe the call sign was "Hotel Romeo" Best I can do for now. MArv

Perrin call signs were "Golf Lima" for the 4781st CCTS and "Kilo Papa" for the 4782nd CCTS. My Guard unit (175 FIS SDANG) used "Papa Papa" and our active duty counterparts at Richards Gebaur (71st FIS) used "Alpha November". That's going way back into the memory banks!

Here are a few more. You will notice that the 71st and 5th are the same, explained as the 71st being deactivated prior to the 5th being activated. The 437th was more than likely Uniform Hotel; having been activated and deactivated between the 456th and the 460th. 329th: George, AFB = Alpha Lima; 71st: Selfidge, AFB = Yankee Kilo; 460th: Oxnard, AFB = Uniform Hotel; 456th: Castle, AFB = Uniform Hotel; 498th: Geiger Field = Alpha Hotel; 5thth: Minot, AFB = Yankee Kilo; 319th: Bunker Hill = Victor Papa; 438th: Kincheloe, AFB = Kilo Hotel.

The brain is fading fast. One of my assignments was with Juliet Papa. Now was that the 460th or 48th? Black Bart

Black Bart Bart, Flight mishap reports for the 460th list the call sign as Uniform Hotel, at least while the squadron was at Oxnard. Don't know if the call sign followed the squadron to Kingsley.

Don't know how the hell I jumbled that 4th word. 460th retired at Grand Forks ND and sent the birds to Fresno. Black Bart

Hi Jim, The forum we use today is the second one that Pat McGee created several years ago. If memory serves me, there used to be a link in the "FORUM" drop down menu on the home page that would allow you to see the old one. McGeep, what is the story? Thanks, Pat P.

They received 4 confirmations this weekend that AK was the 101st Call Sign at Mass ANG.

I have been looking over the earlier posts for the FIS Call Signs and put together this listing from member posts and my own research/background etc.. Due to movements of Squadron from base to base some changed call signs, others kept them. ADC moved six squadrons at will and some question the politics of the moves. Their are holes in listing but I was unable to find all units, Any help would be grateful Lorin
