Special surprise visitor to Pacific Coast Air Museum. A gentleman came in to visit who was the crewchief of my F-106 (590086); while it was assigned to the Test Sq at Holloman AFB in the first part of it's life. His name is John Cooper. He now lives in Sun City. He said my plane was used to test the Bubble Canopy mod, the In flight refueling mod and the Inertial Navigation Mods. He left in 66, so who knows what else they used it to test. John and his wife were vacationing and were awaiting a 3pm check in at their hotel. They thought they would come visit the museum while waiting. John said when they rounded the corner to the museum, he looked up at the fin of my plane and couldn't believe it, it was his old plane from Holloman AFB, NM back in the 60's. We had a great time discussing our old sweetheart <3. I advised him that there was now an F-106B at the Palm Springs Museum. If he wanted to tinker with one again, that might be a good option; and I'm sure they could use the help. BTW, the plane in Palm Springs is one I personally worked on at Hamilton and Castle AFB's (F-106B 57-2509); it was the one that crash landed on Hangar Ave at Hamilton. Next time I go down to SoCal, I "have" to visit it.
