25 years ago - January 16, 1991 - I was a 98C2P (Electronic Warfare/Signals Intelligence Analyst) Sergeant with the 1st Armored Division driving a 5-ton truck with the rest of the 1st AD's Headquarters from Saudi Arabia into Iraq as we went from Desert Shield, into Desert Storm. I missed my first child's, first Christmas, her first birthday, and so many other firsts. This pic of me was taken early in the morning of January 16, 1991 during a hold as we waited for our MLRS units fired their rockets to clear a path for us. Geez. 25 years ago...

My neighbor Miguel threw a Desert Storm Party last night. He was a USAF F-4 Maintenance SQ CO back then. Attendees included about 22 vets from USAF, Navy, Marines and Army. Vets from WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Afghanistan, and Iraq. Wine, beer, lots of food, good stories and memories. The house was decorated with period weapons, MREs, pictures, period magazines and was running slide shows and cable news videos of the invasion. He made a toast and said, two things about Desert Storm... it was 25 years ago and the clothes were too small (he was wearing his snug camo BDUs). The Marines were still lean and trim but the rest of us USAF, Army and Navy guys were a little plumper in our later years. What a great time we had. What a great bunch of vets and spouses! God Bless America!

Thank-you for your service. I also missed a lot of firsts, but things turned out ok. I can now experience this with my grands and great grands. Thank you again.

This statue is part of the memorial at Ft Hood and was made from two giant bronze statues of Saddam Hussein, captured in Iraq by the the 4th Infantry Division, were melted down by an Iraqi artist to make a memorial to their fallen comrades. The cost of the memorial was paid for by donations from Ivy Soldiers, 4ID Association members and businesses and citizens from Central Texas and beyond.

I was 6 months out of a single heart bypass with a medical profile stating I could not eat MRE's. So I did not get to go. About all I did was wonder around the flightline.
