As we observe the official Memorial/Decoration Day on this, the last Monday of May 2014, take time to remember those who gave their all, some of whom we knew.
Memorial Day, IMNSHO, should be observed on the 30th of every May, as it used to be, a day set aside each year for solemn ceremonies and rememberance of our nation's heroes, who gave their all on battle fields around the world, not just another Monday holiday.
This morning, when I opened the Patriot Post, there was a special Memorial Day message, which I think is worthy of our consideration.
It contains the words of Gen. Douglas MacArthur, President Ronald Reagan and Col. Leo K. Thorsness (USAF Ret.), Medal of Honor for actions over Vietnam, April 19, 1967 POW, Vietnam (1967-1973), and others.
Please take the time to read this article, as I'm sure it will touch you, as it did me.

Oh, Holy God, Guide and Counselor of our Founding Fathers, drive our people to their knees in humble gratitude to You for all you have done to preserve our Nation and our Liberties, with thanksgiving for all who fought to keep our Republic Free, many of whom gave their lives or were wounded, watering the Tree of Liberty with their precious Life's Blood.
May, we, our Loving Father, pray for our nation in this time of great peril to the Tree of Liberty, and be willing to once again give our all, in order that we may remain Free.
Thank you, our Mighty God, for all who are currently serving in our Armed Forces, many in Harm's Way, and their dedication to uphold and preserve the Rule of Law and the Constitution of our Land.
Thank you, Father, for each one on this Forum, those who have served and those who upheld us, and may we continue to proclaim the Truths of Freedom and share the love for each other that you have given us.
Father, each of us, those who have served and those who have lifted us up, thank You for your guidance and protection and rejoice in all You have given us.
We thank You and Praise You for what You will do in future for us and for our Republic.
I Thank You and Praise You in the Holy Name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

I watched the flag pass by one day. It fluttered in the breeze. A young Marine saluted it, and then he stood at ease. I looked at him in uniform So young, so tall, so proud, He'd stand out in any crowd. I thought how many men like him Had fallen through the years. How many died on foreign soil? How many mothers' tears? How many pilots' planes shot down? How many died at sea? How many foxholes were soldiers' graves? No, freedom isn't free. I heard the sound of TAPS one night, When everything was still I listened to the bugler play And felt a sudden chill. I wondered just how many times That TAPS had meant "Amen," When a flag had draped a coffin Of a brother or a friend. I thought of all the children, Of the mothers and the wives, Of fathers, sons and husbands With interrupted lives. I thought about a graveyard At the bottom of the sea Of unmarked graves in Arlington. No, freedom isn't free.
