I just read this over on the Facebook, "Convair F-106 Delta Dart" page. Posted by Raymond Paul Moats... Hello all, . . This is by way of Harry Sorenson. * * * "This is Mark Adams (David's son) writing to you from his account. As a friend/relative/correspondent of my Dad's, I wanted to inform you directly of recent events. Last night at around midnight, my father was rushed to the ER with extreme shortness of breath. An effort to revive him was unsuccessful, and he passed away, painlessly, shortly thereafter. Viewing and visitation will be held Wednesday, 3/5 from 12-2, followed at 2 p.m. by services at Harrell Funeral Home in Kyle, TX." * * *. . . I am shocked and saddened to hear of Davids demise. He was a good man and squadron mate in the 5th FIS in Minot, N. D. in the 60's. He was an MA-1 systems technician, F-106, as was I. We enjoyed many a time flying aeroclub aircraft and other pursuits in aviation. He had a heart of gold and was the consummate worker. I will miss our trifles and the joys we shared in our love of aviation and it's environs. Rest in Peace and see you over there. Raymond

Thanks Mark, This is very surprising and very sad. Dave was also in the 456th for a time in 59-60, working on F-102, then F-106. I never got to meet him in person and he never came to a 456th reunion, but he sure was a good pen pal for many years. I just received an email from him on 2-27-14 Dave Adams wrote: Carbon Fiber Airshows 2014 Season Preview Here's what I had in my address book for him: 1959 - 1960 , MA-1 Flight Line Mechanic 456th FIS. Dave wrote: Thanks for all the webshot photos. I was in the 456th working F-102 MG-10 WCS and F-106 MA-1 AWICS from July 59 to July 60 during the conversion. After that, I went to the 5th FIS at Minot for two years before discharge. I was a technician with the South Dakota ANG on F-102 & F-100 before a RIF sent me to an AFRES unit in Houston to work on C-130s. The unit moved to Austin TX in 76, converted to F-4s in 81 where I was the WCS shop chief until I retired in 91 as unit converted to F-16s. The six is still my favorite aircraft as it was the best! Thanks for posting this, Pat.
I don't remember him, but it was 1967 when I left MAFB.
I won't be able to attend his service, but have signed the guest book.
Didn't know there was a Spittin Kitten so close.

A message from Bobski - Pat P.
Ok you guys from the 5th FIS, Mark Gendron is looking to connect with you, See his note below and you can reply directly to him: agateguy1159@yahoo.com Bobski Hi Bob, my name is Mark Gendron. I was stationed at Minot AFB, ND with the 5FIS, F-106s & T-33s (and a little time with the F-15s) from August 1977 to Sept 1984. I painted the yellow lightning bolts on the tails and the fuel tanks and everything else to include all the AGE equipment (Corrosion Control/Acft Painter). When the 5 FIS was deactivated, I became a Base Career Advisor, then after the Gulf War, the Air Force deleted my job and I was put into personnel until I took an early retirement in Oct 1995. I moved to Brainerd, MN (my home town) when I retired from the Air Force. I am interested in any kind of correspondence to see if I can locate any of the people that I met during my time with the 5th Fighter Interceptor Squadron at Minot AFB. Please let me know - thank you and have a wonderful day. Sincerely, Mark Gendron 13862 Sylvan Dam Road SW Pillager, Minnesota 56473 (218) 828-0364 P.S. I found your email address in the April 2015 edition of The American Legion Magazine.

Dave, to the Six Hanger.
Hope you enjoy your tour of duty with us and "paint" lots of pictures of your time at Minot, and the rest of your career.
As you look around the site, you will see we are a pretty "open" forum.
I was in the 5th during the "Glory Years", with Lt. Col. Broughton and Lt. Col. Chandler, and the arrival of Spittin and Kittin, the original Lynxes.
I was in the 5th from Jan. 1962 to Feb. 1967.
A decade before your time.
Crew Chief on B-Model 901, Phase Dock, Maintenance Control.
FYI.
The Dakota Territory Air Museum, at Minot International Airport, has an original 5th T-33, and Original 5th F-15 and a non-original F-106, which they got from the Boneyard.
The Six is in process of being rehabbed and will be put on display with the F-15 and the T-Bird.
They are not sure when the dedication will be, but it looks like it may not be until this Fall.
Keep tuned in, as the date will be posted as soon as the Museum lets us know.
The T-Bird and the F-15 are likely two birds you exercised your artistic talent on.
