Lorin, I am afraid that maybe Ted has departed from us. Emails are returned as not deliverable, phone calls not answered and answer machine says "memory full, please enter security code".... I have searched the Las Cruzes newspaper obituaries and found nothing from the past six months. I last heard from him about 1 1/2 months ago. A birthday card and a friendly note in the mail have not been returned. Wish I knew someone in his area to contact to do a wellness check. Jim

I'm finding it had to believe I'll be 64 on the 25th of Jan. That I have a son that is 41 1/2 years old. And a daughter that is 42 years old. Joined USAF July 1971, Ex-wife left me with two young children (14 months and 5 years old) while I was in Germany, married a wonderful young lady when I was assigned back stateside, went through courts with he ex-husband with death threats and kidnapping threat of her young son before visitation was terminated, witnessed my brother cause my Dad's death in a domestic assault then arrested & I testified against him, at age 36 had a single bypass, between then and now 3 stents in heart arteries, wife had her ankle & both knees replaced, and the list goes on and on. I'm shocked I have survived it all and always came out ontop and better off. I give all credit to the LORD and my faith in Jesus Christ. I look back over it all and I can say I would not change a thing if I could except what happened to me Dad. Now this year being 64 I guess the next thing is to choose a Rx plan to go with my Social Security. Where did all the years go?

Birthday on Wednesday was over shadowed by medical news Thursday morning. Not such a good day for us. Up at 0630 hours for a drive to Madigan Army Medical Center about 2 hours away. Received some pretty bad news from the Orthopedic Surgeon. We should have went back to Madigan Medical Center and the Surgeon for Belinda's second knee replacement instead of a local civilian doctor. It was not done proper, her knee is unstable, not straight, she has more pains, and that new knee needs a new replacement and surgery. Doing the full knee replacement is now more difficult because the surgeon said it looks like more bone was removed than needed and more cement was used than required. Then there is the surgery risks, recovery, physical therapy, medications, etc, etc. We are unhappy, disgusted, upset, mad, and trying to decide when to schedule this as it will surely conflict with some of this years plans. Madigan Medical will do the knee replacement. looking at April for the surgery.

One of my lodge brothers is still fighting screw ups from his replacement almost 2 years ago..... Prayers for Belinda, as well as for the dr. that will do the surgery............

My AF Surgeon told me that was a risk with even him doing operation, although he has not had any severe failures to date. His one problem was patient will not work through the pain and as a result has very limited range of motion. I must say PT is tiresome for a 72 y/o. But the second day after PT produces a lot of pain from workouts. PT says that is common in older patients who don't do daily workouts...ME. I am going to store later today to check out recumbent exercise bikes. That seems to give me best relief from pain. I did 2 miles and 10 minutes on Weds PT. That's my first exercise. Then the last is stretching range of motion on new exercise machine. I sit down and control the machine. I go as far as pain will allow and hold for 10 min. Then go opposite direction for same. I am down to -2 degrees extension and 127 degrees flexation (To the rear). Again all the best for wife on fix to surgery. PS I went on line and watched training film of exact operation. That's not easy to watch. Lorin

Lorin, My wife has a recumbent exercise bike and it works very well with knees, keeping the range of motion good and keeping the knee from getting still. But if the knee is done wrong and its loose and unstable then the bike will not do it any good at all. (Photo below) Her knee is worse now than before the surgery. The best thing is to pick your surgeon very cafefully. The U.S. Army Surgeon who did the first knee had to do a complex knee replacement. He took lots of x-rays and measurements of her knee and answered our questions. He told us exactly what was need and what he was going to do to correct a few issues. This civilian Surgeon hardly did any prep work and took few x-rays and basically said he would replace the knee. Belinda had done all her PT and even more. I should have known better. He was a Navy pilot then he became a Surgeon after he retire from the Navy. The U.S. Army Surgeon has always been a Surgeon. That is the best advice I can suggest - pick your surgeon wisely.
JIM, "Gary..... Above news keeps telling me that my knees don't really hurt that bad. One of my lodge brothers is still fighting screw ups from his replacement almost 2 years ago..... Prayers for Belinda, as well as for the dr. that will do the surgery............"
Well Jim, a person can only take severe pains for so long, as the pain will effect one's health both physically & mentally. You knees & body will let you know when enough is enough. Belinda got your wife's card today, Thank her for us. I'm doing my best to keep my pain issues under control. Had a bad injury in April 1988 in the USAF changing a C-130 engine at McChord. Pulled and ripped my right shoulder rotator cuff . Had about 10 shots in it over 12 years and it finely started to calm down some. Then a lady rearended me at 50-55MPH while I was stopped for traffic and reaggrivated it and gave me bad whiplash injuries in my neck and shoulders. Still have pain some 15 years later. And today I started getting a small burning feeling in my left knee going upstairs. Belinda says that is how is all starts. So I now have to baby my left knee and see if that goes away. We just thank God we don't have a major problem that will kill us. As we get older things do creep up on us.
