Why did the J-75 bang into AB so hard, as compared to later engineswhich ignited in stages ??

As with the J-57 used in the Duece, typically the a/b fuel control was dumping an overally rich fuel load into the spray bars on initial opening.....It generally wasn't so violent when going into burner at min a/b.......One reason for stagin burners was to bring max thrust in by stages.......Some earlier a/c, the burner was lit as the a/c began its takeoff roll because the brakes wouldn't hold that much thrust.........Doing the a/b leanout at Griffiss, I set all four blast deflectors on fire.....They were made out of 2x6s and asbestoes corrogated roofing.......The old Sarge
