This is tough. I was fortunate to meet Jim in person only once when I went TDY to Lackland for some medical tests in 2011. I am so sorry we didn't find anyone to take our picture together.
Such a sad night. I've posted some info on Facebook. My son is at work, so I cried in private too.
Maybe more later. I will miss him, and his wisdom. He was my friend (as you all are), and my pastor.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Jim face-to-face but we had some great conversations via email. I enjoyed reading his blog and that usually stimulated a lengthy reply from me. He kept me in everybody's thoughts when I was in the hospital last winter which I appreciated very much.
I feel bad for De but I pray that their daughters will be able to be her strength as she goes through the grief of losing her husband. I can't help but think that God needed Jim to be there when Christine is called. Rest in Peace, my friend.

I also have had the pleasure of knowing a great man and his family. We never met in person, but had many opportunities to share life together here on the forum as well and numerous e-mail conversations together. I will miss his friendship and his sharing of both good times and bad times. I will also miss his always informing Wisdom of Oz articles he shared with me. I also shared many of those with my friends and family. May the good Lord bless and keep his family safe and healthy and we all know Pastor Jim will be looking over us from the Window Up Above. Jim was at peace with his God and looked forward to his journey home. Lorin

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the life of our "Jim Too". He spoke with you often and reminded us to do likewise. As our Forum Chaplain, Jim always kept us informed and entertained with stories and observations about life. He was always there when we needed him the most for some thoughtful listening and some very good counseling. We are less without him but much more for having known him and enjoyed his friendship and spirit. There are many who will miss his physical presence but will always celebrate his life and will be eternally grateful for the privilege of knowing him.
Please comfort De and her family, Amen

I met Pastor Jim here on the forum in July of 2007 and then with emails until 2008 when Sandy and I were on our way back to AZ from Florida and we were the guests of MA-1 MArv. Marv took us to met Pastor Jim for a fish dinner someplace in San Antonio. As was my practice then, whenever Sandy and I would meet a sixer in our travels, after we got home, the sixer would get a clock in the mail, Jim got his in that manner. A couple of years later, Pastor Jim and De were on their way home from visiting with friends in Nevada and spent some time as our house guests. Another couple of years went by and as we were traveling I-10 to Florida, we had the opportunity to meet with Jim and De for lunch at a restaurant just off the interstate. A wonderful break in traveling was had. Emails and phone calls filled the ensuing years. He became a treasured friend in all ways. Ar dheas Dé go raibh a anam. Time for us to give Jim the sign saying he is cleared to taxi..... The Old Sarge. Mentioning Pastor Jim in another post brought back memories...

I again ask for your prayers for my older brother Tom. About 4-5 weeks ago he started staggering or losing his balance. It has progressed to falling, even with a walker. He saw his doc and then a neurosurgeon. They did MRI and CAT Scan of back and after that of his head. Shortly after the skull MRI his neurosurgeon called him (Friday night) and said she was working on admitting him to hospital. She described two small tumors in top right of his brain. That would explain the issues in left leg. He went in Friday night. We visited him all day Sat. He called last night to say they are scheduling surgery tomorrow, Tues. They will open skull and do a biopsy while he waits for result. If benign or appear removable they will remove tumors and close skull. If not possible they will close up and start radiation/chemo. Brigitte and I are going over again today to spend time with him. We normally visit each other 2-3 times a month. He has been coming here since I had my knee surgery. But I drove over on Sat and will again today. The trip tires me out and I have to use Iceman after return. He is 74 now and has been in good health and has great vitals so Doc says he should have good chance of full recovery. But prayer never hurt in the outcome. Thanks in advance Lorin

Lorin, My hopes and prayers are with you and Tom. may God bless. We went to visit Tom yesterday following his surgery on Tuesday. The Doc did the biopsy and when the initial results were given to her she closed his skull and did not try to remove the tumor. Yesterday while we were with him his doctor came to talk with him and delivered the worst possible news. His two small tumors are glioblastoma multiforme. That is the fastest growing kind of brain cancer. The other bad news is due to the location they will not be able to do aggressive treatment or surgery. The turmors are located in the motor skills area and trying aggressive x-ray treatment like cyberknife will most likely cause paralysis of left side of body just like a stroke. They are going to have the cancer specialist (oncologist) meet with him very soon. The surgeon said they have to wait for skull to heal before starting treatment, that should be two weeks. Prognosis is fatal with very few living a year following discovery. Age also lessons survival. Tom is 74 now, so all we can do is allow for treatment and pray he doesn't suffer much. Lorin

Lorin, I'm very sorry to hear about Tom's diagnosis. A friend of mine had the same condition, went through chemo and radiation and got a little better before taking a turn for the worse and he passed in about 5 months. He had fainted during a meeting and six months later he was gone.
Whatever Tom decides to do for treatments, it would be a good idea to help him get his affairs in order for the benefit of his family. It will be very hard for them trying to be care givers but they need to know everything they can in case Tom passes.
Prayers for Tom and the family.
Pat P.
