From Bobski for immediate release. Inviting all F106 Units, pilots and any one associated with maintenance to the biggest F-106 reunion ever! Pat P.Bobski wrote:Hello F106 Troops! Our 2013 F106 Reunion Committee has started planning for the next reunion. Here are some of the early details so you can reserve the time on your calendars and start your travel plans! Time: Sep 11-15, 2013 (Edit to correct reunion dates) Location: Wright Patterson AFB, Dayton Ohio Open to ALL F106 MA-1, Electrical and COM NAV Troops, ALL BASESWe wanted to open up the reunion a bit more this time because our numbers are getting smaller and many of us were stationed at more than one F106 Base and had a lot of common friends. I have attached the F106 Troops list we have updated since last year. It was primarily from Selfridge guys, SO, we will need all of your help to start adding more names from everyone whoever was at ANY F106 Base, ANY TIME PERIOD, That includes MA-1, Electrical and COM NAV. We will even allow other shops to join too if they wish (OMS, FMS, AGE, etc...). Please forward this email to any F106 person you would like. Also Please email to me any updates: Bob Kwiecinski [email protected]You may also phone me at (734)429-0772. I will be advertising soon in the National Magazines: VFW, Legion, and also Pat's F106 World. The committee so far is basically the same as last year: Bob Kwiecinski (Committee Chair), Ken Wigton, Zig Stancavage, Lee Kuhfelt, Dave Stitler, and Jerry Braun who is our Wright Patterson AFB contact. we could also use any one else interested who could pitch in, especially during the week of the reunion. We are looking at a venue similar to what we did at Selfridge last year, it went well, so we are now investigating activities in the Wright Patterson area. Ken and I will be taking a ride down to Wright Patterson to meet with Jerry Braun in September to scout out potential activities and places to stay. We are looking at local area hotels, restaurants, and attractions. (deals too). We are looking at something like this: Meet & Greet Monday evening (Legion Hall or ?) Golf scramble one morning with a picnic in the afternoon Special deluxe tour of Wright Patterson AFB Wright Patterson Museum Other local attractions (many in the area) Farewell Dinner (Thursday eveing) Again, please look at the attached F-106 Troops file (confidential to F-106 Troops) and start sending me updates. Also please pass along to F-106 Troops not on the list and email reply to me. Sincerely, Bob Kwiecinski (734)429-0772 [email protected]

okay, I have heard that the reunion next year is open to ALL Six maintainers? Even if we were not specialists? also, how about the few that were actually QAEs on the Full Scale Targets (FSAT) program? I know a couple people who's only experience with the Six was with that program.

Dag Nab it! I was just there, At Wright Pat - about 10 days ago! Too bad - I would have loved to get with all of you and share a beer and some thoughts! Speaking of Wright -Patt and the Air Force Museum - I noticed a small problem with one of their displays! In the hallway down from the gift shop, there is a model of the F-106 on display that has a tail number of 72514 It is a model of an "A" model airframe. The problem is that 72514 is a "B" model airframe! Further evidence can be found back in the gift shop by looking through some of the pictures displayed, for there you can find an official photo of 72514 "B" model - in flight! I meant to stop and tell the front desk that little fact - though I doubt it would ever get changed! Looking forward to another reunion - one I can make it to this time!!! Oh -- I did ask about the MA-1 Crazy Nose trainer that we shipped from Lowry to W.P when we closed the school. No response as of yet! It would really be great to have it on display as well - right alongside of 80767! MArv

That "Sharp Eye' came from a little incident I had at Wurtsmith AFB. I went out to work one aircraft (tail number 454 -I think!) and found it did not have any problems lke my 781 said it did. After closing down the airframe and about to sign off the acft forms, I noticed that the tail number did not jive with my 781. So when I checked the tail number - yep - I had worked the WRONG airplane! That little mistake cost me another 4 plus hours on the line that cold, wet and very foggy night! From then on I always checked tail numbers when I started to work on one! Without going back to check at the airframe website, I think the problem was involved with 6-454 and 7-454, both "A" models at the 2nd FIS at the time! You think I would have thought about checking the tail number a bit sooner - because the aircraft did not have any power unit or air conditioner even near it!!! MArv

Got this reply from Col Shulmister (27th FIS)
I have forwarded to the entire 27th FIS contingent (except Tom Gerken). Observation: September is not known for being a time when severe weather is unlikely, and otherwise it is HOT, even in Ohio.
NEED A CONTACT POINT PLEASE>>>> Will fwd to the Col... The Old Sarge
more from the col: I knew only about a third of the guys who attended the 27th FIS Pilot reunion, even though I coordinated the whole thing. Don't let that deter you. The war stories are just as good.

Amen on that Col Ya know, besides some of Jim's clocks to raffle and door prize they might like some of MOW's new Challenge Coins to serve as mementos. We did those at one of our 456th reunions and they were a huge hit. And they need to find the hot malls and strip centers so they ladies can go shopping. Erv and Sandy Smalley did that at Colorado Springs and it went over big with the wives. Dayton is a great place for reunions. The Museum also has a big IMAX movie theater. And the presentations done by WPAFB are excellent. Admission is free but bring a wad of cash for the gift shop. It's not expensive but there's a lot of stuff to buy. Pat P.

I have lived in WPAFB community since 1983. I was born and raised not that far away (35 min). But I haven't been to Musuem in over 7 years. I was tied up in Akron babysitting granddaughter when Bob and company made there initial scouting trip. I definately will be available for the reunion. I look forward to meeting some old friends and making new ones. lorin

It will hold up to 200, has lots of tables where people can gather visit, and relax.
