During an extended trip through most of Europe last month, I had a couple of interesting thing occure because of the F-106 / Remove before flight key chain tags that I had on my luggage. After leaving Paris, we had to change trains in Brussels to take a local train to Bruge. With my superior skill of negotiatng a foreign train station, I deturmined the correct platform and time for our train. As I'm sure that many you know, the trains in Europe run on a very tight schedule, so when a train arrived at our platform within five minutes of when our train was to depart, we hopped on. But when the conductor came by, my wife asked to confirm that we were on the correct train. So, when he replied that no, this train was going the other direction. So we quickly gathered up our bags and tried to get off as he was locking the doors he said that it was too late as the train was leaving. Then when we asked what was the next stop and what was the correct train for Bruge, he replied rather huffily "Read the Signs". So, me being just a little put off by his attitude, I said rather loudly to his retreating back, " OK A.. H... perhaps the next time that Germany desides to invade your country, maybe we won't come to your aid". But it was just a few minutes later that an older gentleman that had heard the exchange, came up to us and advised us that the next stop was just a few minutes away and which platform to go to for the correct train, and he assured us that he appreciated what the US armed forces did for his country, as he recognized tags on the luggage. Then as we were winding our way through the Shiphol airport security in Amsterdam for our return, there were several flight crews that were being given priorty and went to the head of the long lines. I was prepaired for another long a grueling and slog through the line, when a Captain from USAir said that he saw the tag and to come along as "you are one of us". I told him that it was a long time ago, but he replied that it was OK and that "we were still one of us". So with minimal delay we got through security, for which I was very happy. So put those tags on your luggage, you never know what good will come of it.
