Diggin thru my old AF tool box , I found the following item........it is approx 2" long, brillant blue in color, has a hole approx 5/16 dia thru it from end to end, threaded on both ends, has an 11/16th inch hex nut machined on to it and has a washer and a 13/16ths hex nut that screws on to the opposite end....Part # AN-375 48 is stamped on the machined nut........Why is it blue? What does AN stand for? How was it used? ?? Believe it was later replaced by items marked with MS..... The Old Sarge.........

Old Sarge, You have a 5/16 ID AN bulkhead fitting used in oxygen system supply lines since it is blue. Kilroy is correct in that AN was for Army-Navy standard fittings and hardware.

:-*Numbnuts is correct. 5/16 or #5 fittings were used only for oxygen systems. they might have been used in other systems but I can`t remember any.

Weren't some of the static fittings also blue? If I remember right the Pitot lines were smaller size, and the static lines were larger to keep them from being swapped by the instrument toads. The fittings that were blue though were the A/N ones. There were other fittings such as the ones that went into the CPU-111 that were MS and brass in color. The place I recall blue mostly is in the radome disconnect area and pitot tube. Is my memory correct, it gets fuzzier as the time goes on.

Naw, it ain't fuzzy perhaps....You all are right,or almost right....Blue indicated that it was an aluminum fitting ....this one happens to be for flared 3/8" tubing........Its use was not restricted to low press oxygen, itwas found in hyd brake systems, low press fuel systems, pitot/static systems-----most anything that used aluminum tubing...The Duece had a coupke of 2 1/2" ones for fuel in in the engine bay ( I cross-threaded one),,,,,,,,,,,This particular fitting was on the mlg of an F-94 and went to the brake....It is a bulkhead or bracket fitting,,,,,,,,,,,, Good to see numbnuts in here again Same for that MA-1 WEEEEENNNIIIIEEEE MArv You too Kilroy The Old Sarge

If my memory serves me right, aluminum was used thru out the hyd systems. Stainless steel was used on extrernal brake lines and exposed high pressure systems. Low pressure and return lines were made from 52so aluminum tubing and internal high pressure lines was made fron T6 aluminum tubing. maybe some bubble chaser out there will shed a little light on the subject.
