Ron asked:
Yes, Ron, it is exactly that.
The figures I have seen are pretty telling.
Fewer than 50% of our population pays any taxes, or are required to pay taxes.
And, And, many of them are given "Earned Income Credit" cheques, even if they didn't work.
Recently I was told, by an authority on the subject, that 47% of our population is receiving some form of Government Assistance.
That does not include Social Security payments, Military or Government Pensions.
So, I think you know the answer to your question.
Those who are on the receiving end of this largess are going to vote for those they know will continue to support them.
When the government continues to shell out money to those who are "unemployed", for months and years, with little accountability, why go to work.
There are also some disputes about the "True" unemployment rate.
There are some who estimate the "True" rate is between 18% and 20%.
Those are mostly folks who either never went to work, or quit looking for work.
They are not starving. They have cars, flat-screen televisions, cars, booze, lots of children and all the other benefits of being a human on the take from various and sundry government programs.
It is pretty obvious that if all of the folks in that group who are able to vote, (which doesn't take much, just pick up an absentee ballot or four, and drop them at the election office), will vote for whomever will allow them to live in the lifestyle to which they have become accustomed.
As Professor Harold Hill sang: "Yes, sir, we got troubles, my friend, right here in River City (or the US of A).

I feel emasculated! When the dregs of society continue to take and take and take. And the leaders of society allow them to do it, and facilitate it for them.
I've just decided who I'm voting for in the NEW congressional district they just gerry mandered in Southern AZ. The one which was vacated by Gabby Giffords. She's a former A10 pilot, former Lt. Col in the Air Force. I think she has a lot of different perspectives. Oh, and YES, she's also a Republican.
Hopefully more people will understand the implications of this next election.
I'm afraid of the apparent alternatives presented by reelecting OBummer. They are equally disgusting and disturbing. Anarchy or destruction of this country are not suitable options for me.

And the Old Sarge has observed the following status symbols on people using the gov't provided "credit" card in Wally World : Multi-coloored tattos on neck, bared shoulders, ankles, thighs, etc....Multiple nose, ear, lip, belly button, eye brow and tongue piercings. Sometimes you could see the bumps of nipple piercings though a tee shirt. Some times this was evident all on the same person. Looking at the cuts of meat, shrimp (some that I feel I can't afford) and other items- most not wearing the Great Value label, going thru the scanner pisses me off. You know it is a gov't card because they keep it pretty well covered when they swipe it... Then you see her husband or significant other coming out of the cigarette counter with a carton or 2 of cigarettes and a 30 pac of Coors.... Then you push your cart out to the parking lot and you see them load the stuff into the back of an almost new Dodge Ram 2500 pickup.... My blood pressure goes up several points as we load our stuff into our 11 year old Ford WindStar with 125k on it...
Final straw- went to the bank the other day and had to wait while a similarily decked out young mother cashed a gov't check for 850.00, she explained that this was what she was owed because she didn't make enough last year to pay taxes.... The teller, an older woman, just rolled her eyes and looked at me..... When I came out, Sandy said look at the bumper sticker on that girls car- OBAMA 2012.... I told her what happened in the bank and she went ballistic

Earlier this year the wife and I went to Kroger's. While there wife looked at white seedless grapes. But she didn't buy any because they were $2.99 a pound. She said we can wait a couple weeks and price will come down. Well as we were checking out the lady in front of us had three plsatic bags full of the same grapes. And yes, she used her Food stamps card to pay. My wife couldn't help herself, she said I hope you enjoy those grapes we bought for you. We can't afford them because we have to support you and your family.
