Frank here. I've drafted a letter to Ms Peltz and had edited it about a million times. Not the easiest letter to write seeing that I never met the lady and want to respect the issue of time. I plan on sending it to her the Monday after next and will post a word-for-word copy on this forum. Hopefully I'll get a timely reply, but than again... I'm working on the David Peltz/59-0164 story and hope to have something soon. Thanks folks. - Frank Keep going Frank. It's never easy to say comforting words at a time like this. I can help with wordsmithing if you need me. I'm sure the family is still grieving Dave's loss and they have a lot on their minds. They will appreciate your reaching out to them in David's memory. Thanks, Pat P.

Pat:
Thanks for the wordsmithing offer. I ran the final product past an expert in the field, my local funeral director. Thumbs up. I need to know how to post a document or how to get it to you as an attachment. Do I use the "add image to post"? I'll be scanning the letter with the addresses blacked out. Thanks again for the offer and I'm anxiously awaiting your reply. Cheers - Frank

You can take a cell phone picture and add that to the post or email me a copy of the letter and I'll convert it to a picture image and send it back to you for posting. popperry@verizon.net Thanks, Pat P.

The project in Milwaukee has been at a standstill for nearly two years. I've written Ms. Peltz several times asking what the disposition of this airframe could be, if I could complete the work on 0164, take current pictures and clean it up for possible prospects. No reply to any of this. I was once told the only reason I bang my head against the wall is because it feels good when stop. I look forward to the day I get a reply.

Do we have somebody in that area who could swing by and knock on the door, or ask for a welfare check? If she passed too there's a chance the heirs might not know or care what's up with "that crappy old part of a plane"--there is also a lesson here with most of our community's age, about the importance of Estate Planning and having clear detailed plans on what to do with assets.

Diamondback, I understand the "welfare check" to see if MRS. Peltz is OK but I wouldn't advise it. It might be easier to check with the Timmerman storage rental to see if it is still being paid regularly. I totally agree with your statement, "there is also a lesson here with most of our community's age, about the importance of Estate Planning and having clear detailed plans on what to do with assets."
Every state has its own Probate Laws and most of them are different and change every year. If Dave Peltz died Intestate (without a will) it may take the family much longer to Probate his Will if he had one. The last thing an outsider would want to do is get involved in a Will Probate directly with the family survivors & beneficiaries. My wife & I just updated our 22 year old wills to bring them in line with current Probate Laws in our state. It cost us a lot of money to do this but we found that our Probate Laws have led to much shorter Probate than 22 years ago. One week versus one year. This makes it much easier on our two beneficiaries (children) who will act as co-Executors after our deaths.
I encourage all our Forum members to check with the states they now live in to check the Probate laws with an Estate Planner. This is especially important if their Wills were written in another state or their beneficiaries and Executors have changed since their Wills were written. This will ensure they know their Wills will pass Probate faster than if their wills were written over 5 years ago.
You want to make sure your assets pass quickly and properly to your correct beneficiaries and your Death Taxes are minimized for the State & Federal Governments. America requires 1 piece of paper to be born and a file carton of paper to die. I speak to this from personal experience of Executing two wills from my family members who died unexpectedly. Took me a year to execute each will.
Thanks, Pat P.

Thanks, Pat. I was more spitballing to spark discussion, and contacting the storage facility, preferably by lindel or someone else wrenching on the project or a member of the org Dave led--might be the better play. If the bills haven't been paid for as little as 3 months 0164 is probably lost again. My own assets, I'm trying to set up a "pre-donation plan" where I either transfer their ownership to the intended recipients while alive with "transfer of physical possession upon my passing," or complete transfer with a "right of borrow-back upon request." Given that most of what I have is historical wargaming miniatures I'd like to find a museum to set up a Hands-On Learning program with... and the rest are firearms. My old duty sidearm is to be buried with me, cosmolined and canned with a spare set of springs, but if my gal outlives me "her" rifle is going to be a problem as a non-citizen and resident of a country that just banned anything semiauto. ("Hers" in the sense of I own, built and maintain it but when she joins me at a match it's her 'designated loaner' or in her hands responding to a Home D emergency.) Trying to get the relatives to think ahead similarly, but they still haven't sorted out Grandpa's effects from 1989 other than his suits that were transferred to me and pretty much live by "maintain status quo until something breaks, make me kludge together a temporary fix, then ignore my warnings about needing to find a more permanent solution until things break and force me to bust my butt with another Hail Mary trick-play again."

Diamondback, I just emailed Lindel and will let you know if I get a reply or an email reject. He moved down here to the DFW area about 4 years ago and I went to visit him. I think he is still here but may have changed email providers from Yahoo to another provider. He had family here in DFW. Thanks, Pat P.

The last I heard of it was Dave's passing away, unfortunately.
