Another Six Saved! The cockpit of 59-0164 that sat in Tucson AZ for so long was sold and has been successfully moved to Timmerman Airport, Milwaukee, WI this month. I'm updating the Display page www.f-106deltadart.com/display_timmerman-airport.htm as I get info from one of the project guys Dave Peltz. The plan is for a complete restoration and I'm sure they'll be asking us for advice, assistance etc as they go down that long road. Another Six Saved! Here's the back story on this bird... or maybe I should say the front story. :2thumbsup www.convairf-106deltadart.com/590164Page.htmlPat P.

Just sent Dave a note introducing myself and providing a little more contact info.
The ball's in his court, and I'm looking forward to this!

They didn't get the fuselage? If not what became of it?

They didn't get the fuselage? If not what became of it? Jim, See the bottom of this page for the last mentions of 59-0164 convairf106deltadart.homestead.com/SurvivorList.htmlIt was most likely sold for scrap metal. Or maybe even thrown into the Range Duck shipment? Might have made a good "lawn dart" display with no nose - like the Cadillacs buried nose first in Amarillo, TX. If I ran a bar in Tucson I would have parked it out front like it had punched a hole in the side of the building and named it the Delta Dart Bar & Grill. :rofl Pat P.

I can remember working on 59-0164 at Tyndall from 67-71. She was a pretty reliable bird. But like all MA-1 systems required regular fixes and we had to pull "coffin rack every 25 hours so they could do maintence on cooling/heat exchanger. I acually put a coffin rack back in by myself once. Laid on back and used feet/legs to hold in place and used speed handle with extensions to start a bolt. That was first and only time.

I live in Milwaukee and at one time, lived less than a mile from Timmerman Field. I now live on the other side of town but it's only a short drive on the expressway. I have some physical limitations so I don't know how much actual work I could do but I would love to be included in this somehow. Maybe I could take pictures of everybody working.

I don't normally do this, post email adresses, but Dave said to get the word out and for people to contact him about helping with the restoration, so anyone interested in helping out in anyway nees to email Dave Peltz at skycop@mindspring.comLindel - He said his email to you failed and is trying to get a hold of you. Send him another email.

: I sent an email to Dave about maybe helping on the project. He replied and we didn't set up a meet yet because I am going in for back surgery Tuesday. It doesn't sound like I will be laid up for any length of time, but I will get in touch with him towards the end of the week. I am also looking forward to meeting lindel. I hope we can be of some good help. I will try to keep everyone posted once things get rolling.

As far as I know we are. I plan on giving Dave a call later this morning, and hopefully going up on Thursday to take stock of the air craft and facilities. I'll be taking the camera along for the ride.

We chatted for about 2 hours, and basically, he wants to make a mobile or transportable museum display out of it. With the idea of giving youngsters and young adults a feel for history, etc. He'd like to have the doors cycle (slowly/safely), the rails cycle, the IR head cycle, the front gear cycle and the canopy as well. On air pressure, or electrical power preferably. I think the doors, rails and IR head used air pressure, but don't remember for sure. Oh, and I'm curious if we could get the vari-ramps operational. The bird is amazingly complete, given the circumstances, and IMO in remarkably good shape. Another question he had, that I didn't feel knowledgeable enough to answer, was if the rear bulkhead would be strong enough to support the rear if bolted to a jig of some sort. As promised, pictures! MOW, feel free to download them.
