I'm updating the Patches page of the website with the new photo gallery and have included Challenge Coins with it. F-106 Patches and CoinsIt's a place to display all the Challenge Coins we've made over the years, which hopefully will serve historical purposes as well as possible inspiration for future projects. www.f-106deltadart.com/patches.htm

I have a good collection of Challenge coins, but from my work with WPAFB after retirement. But I have an old Commerative Coin with a history to it. I had an uncle who worked for North American Aviation in Columbus back in 1950's. He gave me this F-86 Commerative coin in 1953. I lost it at Mom's house sometime in early 1960's. When my Mom sold the old homestead in 1997 my wife and I were digging up some flowers to transplant at our house. While I was replanting one of the flowers the coin dropped out and I had it back after 30 some odd years in the ground. I guess that was a safe place while I served my tour in USAF (1963-1986). It is a 25 year Commerative coin for North American before they got bought by Rockwell International and then became Boeing. Attachments:

After my retirement in 1986 I worked for 20+ years supporting WPAFB as contractor. I ended up as Senior Computer Security Engineer for all AF Financial Information Systems. I was selected to work with Corona Blue Ribbon Team on Common Access Card (CAC). Team Leader at Pentagon gave me this coin for my work. Attachments:

I don't know when, or where, challenge coins began.
I do know I never saw one until long after I retired.
Maybe they were around in my era, and I just missed them.
The only ones I have were given to me by one of our esteemed members, and my son-in-law, when he was at Mildenhall.
Does anyone know the history of challenge coins?
They seem to be everywhere, and for everything.

Just like constantly uniform changes its a way to make the troops spend money on things they do not need. It's a game. The object is someone somewhere to make money.

Guess I was never in a squadron that had challenge coins.
Even in WW1.
I wonder if Snoopy gave them out in his squadron?

The first coin I received was from the Chief's Group at WPAFB during my selection/promotion party. I have had it since 1984. I have been challenged many times and have been lucky to have it in my pocket. I have to change my story. I gave my original Chief's coin to my father in law. SMSgt Alfred Brueck, god bless his soul. He spent 30 years in USAF and never made Chief, so I made him an Honorary Chief several years after he retired. My original coin had teh old style Chief's insignia two rockers up and three below. I never even knew what a challenge coin was...and when I did hear about them...I thought I'd have to either pay the entire bar tab or fight my way out of the danged bar.....
sure wished I'd had one to add to my collection of coins I got from boeing....

Looks like I'm gonna need to snag the StratoPig and SAC coins... what does it say that I've got two polar opposite affiliations in the family I'm proud of*, the Six keeping the enemy back and the BUFF taking the fight to them? *As was my grandfather, the family veteran who turned wrenches and cut metal supporting both

No coins, but I used to see the 49th FIS, F-106 belt buckle on eBay all the time. There are a couple generic F-106 belt buckles on there right now for sale from $22-36, but no 49th version. I did find one here if you're curious how it looks. romemilitarymuseum.tripod.com/1004.htmlThere is a really cool photo of a 49th Six firing a Genie on this page, as well as some patches and buttons. (BTW, I actually own an original of the "76" button shown on the page! Had it for years!)

I still have a 49th buckle that I bought of ebay after I wore the first one out. Needless to say, I don't wear it.
