Hello all, Rod Van Deusen reporting here and hailing from the former 84th FIS and 318th FIS Det 1, Castle AFB, '78 - '82. I've just completed designing and building a prototype RC Six park jet. The maiden flight is scheduled for 26 December ala the first F-106 Maiden date. Swing over to my RCgroups build log www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=780992 and check it out. (Free) Plans will be posted in the future so you can build your own Six. My next build will be representing the acft that I was crew chief on way back when, 590049 (may she rest in pieces). Cheers, Rod

Hi Rod glad to have you here! I got to the 318 det 1 alert barn in late 81. Were you up there then? I'm trying to remember names of guys who were 84th then 318 Det 1 that I worked with. Joe Galmish? something Adams? Damn, I pulled alert with these guys for several years you'd think I'd remember. They were both crew chiefs.
Great work on the jet!! Take video when she flies!

Well heck, I was one of the guys that worked alert for the 84th, Montana Air Guard Birds, & 318th Det 1 from 1980 to April '82 when I separated. Geez, we have to know each other, what's your name? Here's some pictures of 84th history. If you look through it you see Maj Fortmeyer, as you know he later became Commander of 318th Det 1. Also some pictures me and others in a "Interceptor Magazine" write up and clip from the Merced Sunstar. rodv46.spaces.live.com/photos/cns!E9E3613EFBC7F67A!146/

You ought to ask Pat Mcgee (our webmaster) if he could put your project links on his F-106 Modeling page www.f-106deltadart.com/models.htmAlso, The newspaper article you have on the closing of the 84th FIS at Castle would be a nice add to Pat's 84th FIS page. Our fellow Forum member, Ralph Robledo (aka Chief o'the Darts) was a MA-1 troop in the 84th at Castle. He is now on the Castle Air Museum Restoration Team and has lead the restoration of the F-106 and F-102 at CAM. Keep us posted on the progress of your project. Thanks for sharing, Pat Perry 456th FIS 66-68 Castle AFB

Hey Rod,
I'm Patrick McGee. Damned if I don't have any pics of me then. Yea Maj Fortmeyer was the 318 Det commander when i got there. Later it was MAj Dupree. And Randy Adams is name of that guy I was trying to remember.
I'm going to add your projects links to the website.

Hey Pat P & Pat M! Thanks for the warm welcome! Feel free to add the newspaper clippings and project links to the site. I have some more 84th pictures in a album I need to scan. As soon as I do i will forward them for addition to the 84th page. I have a decent shot of the flight line that were shot from the parking area by the hanger and some of the other crew chiefs of that period. I also have a number of the "Interceptor" magazines as well, including the last issue. I don't recall ever meeting Ralph Robledo, but that wasn't unusual. As you know, they MA-1 guys were normally hunkered down in the nose dock working one of the jets and the only time us crew chiefs seen one of the guys is when there was a possible mission abort due to a MA-1 prob and one of the black box wizards would run out and start banging boxes to re-seat the electrical connectors....... The funny thing is that it usually worked..... I still remember the ones they normally hammered on too. I thought it a shame the the Six at Castle Air Museum wasn't painted in 84th colors, especially sine it was one of our birds, 793. But I guess the ones who donate the cash get to chose the tail flash. Anyway, I'm glad to be on board here and among fellow Six lovers. BTW Pat, I believe I do remember Randy Adams. Do you remember Msgt Richard (dick) Burns? He was NCOIC of the alert barn for a year or so. He was a heck of a good NCO, a nice guy and great to work for. Caio for now, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!
