An update on Erv Smalley's memorial service. Email from Sandy to the Old Sarge: Jim, As promised, here is the finished Urn.......You would not believe how beautiful it looks. Know we have someone smiling just looking at it.
Thank you for doing this and a message from the Director of the Shrine of Remembrance.....he said to make sure to tell you that he has never seen anything so beautiful............So hope that makes your day. Know come April we will hear alot of wonderful remarks so I will make sure I tell them whom the Artist is.
Thank you again, Sandy
Pastor Jim has written a prayer for Erv's memorial in April and we will publish it afterward. Sandy had asked Jim to make one of his aluminum Delta Darts for Erv's urn. Notice the inscription and Erv's favorite sign off, "Cheers". Also note the Masonic symbol.
Sandy will let us know the details for the memorial service in April for those interested in attending.
God Bless our two Jims for helping remember a truly fine man.
Pat P.
Absolutely beautiful Jim :salute Where else on the Internet do you find a group like this that takes care of their own so well? It just doesn't happen anywhere but here. :salute

Hi All just a reminder on Erv Smalley's Memorial Service this coming Saturday April 28th, 2012.Sandy Smalley wrote: Hi Pat, The Memorial is Saturday, April 28 at 10:30am [at the Shrine of Rememberance in Colorado Springs].... Have it all arranged now. Ret. General Ron Gray that is going to speak and Ed Weaver will recite the prayer from your Chaplain [Pastor Jim]. We have the Reception planned after the Memorial at The Retired Enlisted Club here in town.
I am doing ok, just busy getting everything arranged. The boys, their wives and grandkids have been a great help. So much last minute things to get done. But have survived it all. Have alot of out of town relatives that will start arriving on Thursday so my house will be the central meeting place. Will be nice to see them all just wish it were on different circumstances. Thank you and Pat McGee for taking over the sites. That was a load off of my shoulders especially since I did not know too much about how it was run. Just am thankful that Erv had written down all of the info last year, so we had it available for you guys. So a Big Thank You to both of you. I do look at the Forum when I have a moment and see the very nice entries. Bless All of You, Sandy Smalley :us_flag

Sandy Smalley wrote: Here is a beautiful poem that our daughter-in-law, Jennifer Phelps, wrote for Erv.
Note: read it like a paragraph.
Here is the poem I read at Erv's Memorial Service. Thank you to everyone who came and shared in the celebration of Erv's life.

From Sandy:Pat, We made no corrections nor additions to the prayer. It was written so beautiful with lots of thought. Ed Weaver delivered it very nicely. You may put it on the site if you wish as the Chaplain wrote it with so much sincereness for which we deeply thank him. Thank you for putting Jen's poem on the Forum and I hope everyone that reads it enjoys it as much as we all do. Thank you again for all that you have done, Bless All of You, Sandy AND NOW THE PRAYER WRITTEN BY OUR CHAPLAIN HERE ON THE FORUMS: PRAYER FOR ERV SMALLEY MEMORIAL SERVICE
Loving Father, we thank you for your presence with us this day, as we give honor to our departed Brother in Arms, Erv Smalley.
We are thankful for each one who has come here to honor and celebrate Erv's life.
It is with great sorrow that his loving wife, Sandy, and their children had to say goodbye to Erv. It was not their choice or his that he passed from this life unto the next and we are comforted to know he is with you until we all meet again.
Father we don't understand why Erv was taken when he was, but we trust in your Wisdom and Grace at his leaving.
We, his family, friends, and fellow Patriots, bid him farewell, for now, until the Last Muster takes place, when the final trumpet call is heard.
Father, Erv was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who loved and enjoyed his bride and their family. He was a friend to many, even those who never met him in person, but knew him through his written communications with them.
He is certainly missed by all of us, but none more than Sandy and the family.
Father of Grace and Comfort, we humbly pray you pour out your Love, your Grace, your Comfort and your Peace upon Erv's family and his friends.
We thank you Father that Erv was an honored, dedicated member of the United States Air Force, and he served his family, his nation and his God, with honor and with pride.
Father, as we give this earthly farewell to our departed brother, help us to remember his life with a smile and a tear, remembering all he did in the life you gave him, and how he touched so many lives.
It is hard, Father, to say farewell, and we ask you to give us the grace to say our earthly farewells to Erv, and to honor him, by our continued love and care for Sandy and their family. Help us also, Lord, to honor Erv by our continued service to our Republic, and to pray for the freedoms and peace that Erv strove for in his life, both in the Air Force and after.
Now, our Loving Father, we ask your hand to be upon Sandy, their children and grandchildren and each of us. Allow us to mourn, but give us your joy and peace.
Thank you Father for loving us, and for the Salvation that you brought to us through the Lord Jesus Christ.
We pray this in the Holy Name of Jesus.
Amen.
Pastor Jim Scanlon, TSgt United States Air Force Retired Retired from Village Missions as a missionary pastor.

Email from Sandy Smalley: Wanted to send you a picture of Erv's Shadow Box that we completed. It came out very nice after checking with Marty Isham to get the correct patches and locating his medals.
Sandy Smalley
Pat: I had forgotten that Erv worked on the Spectre Gunship program. I was also at Ubon RTAFB but worked on C-130 Blind Bat Flare ships.
