At McChord AFB, From 1982 until the C-141 was replaced with the C-17 I was part of the maintenance that kept the C-141B's flying. Reunions had been going on for the past 3 years and I heard about this one in Mossyrock, WA and went to it. It was fun and I had this cake made for it. Met up with lots of old friends and co-workers.
In the mid 1970's I was with the 318th FIS at McChord AFB working T-33's and F-106's.
Sure wish someone would put together a 318th FIS Reunion.

Bull, I was stationed at McChord from 1980-1983. I was in charge of the C-130 Simulator and the buildup and installation of the new C-130 Simulator and Visual System. I also went TDY from Tyndall in 1968 to support 318th at Osan. I was MA-1 then. Lorin Berry CMSgt Retired

Then what did the USAF do. ? Built a new engine test cell for the TF-33 engines. Shutdown the TF-33 engine overhaul shop. Brought in F-15's Built a aircraft engine run hush-house for the F-15's New jet shop building for the F-15 engines. etc, etc, etc. Then moved the C-130's Deactivated the 318th FIS and moved the F-15's. Always wasting money and you wonder why the country is deep in debt???

It's been a long time since my C-141A days. Would love to revisit the old stomp'n grounds around Travis. I bought a house out side the back gate off of route 12 in a new housing development called Quail Glenn back in '76 for a whopping $24K! Can't buy a front driveway for that anymore.
In '75, late in the year if I recall, a retired USAF Maj working at the Fairfield Chevy dealer tried to talk me in to buying a Corvette, brand new 1976 Bright Yellow w/brown leather interior, big L82 motor because the car was coming in from Nevada (couldn't get the L82 in CA normally), 8-track Tape player, all for just over $7K out the door, drive it home today, drive it to work tomorrow! And I told the Maj "no, I can't spend that much on a car!" Damn, if we only knew then what we know now.
Anyway, memories of Travis... a few anyway.

Glad to hear you had a good time at the C-141 reunion. One of my first Herk mentors started out his FE career on C-141s. Most of his hours were on those -- pretty obviously -- those guys flew much more long-range stuff than we Herk guys ever did. Here's a shot of one of the nicest C-141 displays I've ever seen. It's at Travis! This is a shot I took back around 1980/1981 in Moses Lake, WA during an exercise the bubba's from McChord were doing. These were some of the last white-over-grey paint jobs I ever saw. Most of them had been painted with the wraparound Euro scheme. And, of course, "Memphis Belle 5" from the Tennessee ANG. (Somewhere I have a shot of the Memphis Belle B-1 from the Georgia ANG.)
