I didn't expect this to happen to be honest. I was passing a pretty bad crash in Abilene early this afternoon, and took some photos. When I checked a couple hours later to see if it was on the news site -- and it wasn't -- I decided to send these photos in to KTAB, the local news station. As I sent them, they posted the story on their website, then the producer e-mailed me back, and said he would add them to the page. I missed the evening news on TV (at my daughter's softball game), but will check the 10 p.m. edition. He told me he might use them during the broadcast news story, but he had some video too. Not the happiest story to be associated with, especially since I took enough photos like these (several much worse than this) during my State Trooper career, but still kind of neat to get published with credit. (I may not have been as close as the news producer, but to "toot my own horn" so to speak, who's photos look better? Just sayin'!) bigcountryhomepage.com/fulltext/?nxd_id=373827Mark

Yours definitely give a better feel of how bad the wreck was. His shot could've been a couple of guys at a wrecking yard.

I just watched the story on the 10 p.m. news. They had some really good video -- much better than his, or my photos -- and they didn't show my photos. Watching the video I can understand why. I wouldn't have shown my pics either if I was the editor!
Oh, no update on the driver's condition as of tonight's news, so I suppose it hasn't changed from extremely critical. One thing I noticed was the vehicle had Arizona plates. My first thought was it was someone from Dyess, but they didn't mention that, so I don't know. What is going on in my mind however, is the driver may not have been familiar with Texas "frontage roads". The on-and-off ramps here in Texas sure messed with me for the first year or so I was here! I suspect the driver saw the on-ramp at the last second, and tried to get on the Winters Freeway too soon. That's just me thinking though; who knows.
Still, I'm glad I was able to contribute something.
