me...I've got an awesome 1911 combat commander in .45acp.... I've owned it for close to 30 yrs and it still shoots awesome....I have several other weapons of destruction....in .357, .40s.w, .45acp, .380....and comparing them all ...the colt python and combat commander are the most fun...I have a better group with them...and they are danged near bullet proof.... I did post on what today's military is screaming for...guess what..it's the .45acp 1911 series... mcgeep.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=warstories&thread=2373&page=1#20413it's a long post but very informative.... interesting post. I'm looking at a few pieces right now. Sig and Glock both have my attention. 40 cal seems to be right for me. haven't shot in a long time and not sure if i can handle a 45. I'll find a good gunshop in tucson and compare the two before i make my decision.
also like the new sig .50 cal rifle. I'm moving south of tucson, might get some target practice in in the desert.

Try the Gun Emporium on Orange Grove...... If you are going to buy a foreign weapon, try the Taurus Millinium Pro PT140... .40 cal and 10+1....... For American, check Ruger a lot of their guns are made in Prescott,Az......... localranges.com/gun-shops-and-shooting-ranges/arizona/tucson-arizona/

Jim I purchased a ruger SR40 yesterday. right on the side it says made in Prescott AZ. Fired 2, 15 round clips thru it and all 30 rounds were 3 to 4 inch grouped. Pretty good for the first time with it. Excellent buy. Jay. : :2thumbsup

That's a pretty interesting front sight too. What do you think of that? I still have my eye on a .380 PPK/S for CCW, but a .40 would make my warm-and-fuzzy meter feel better! It's been a month and a half since I applied for my Texas CHL, so I should hear in a couple weeks (by law) if I got it. Just dealing with the bureaucracy now. Mark

Mark You can actually reverse the backstrap from a slight curve like the 1911 to a flat surface, which ever you like. Jay. :2thumbsup :

The backstrap (or, 'mainspring housing') for me has always depended on the pistol. My SW5906 (my CSP pistol which I still have) came with a curved grip that I hated. When I switched to a flat one, I loved it. For my 1911A1, I love the curve! Go figure! BTW, the original 1911 had the flat back, and the 1911A1 got the curve. I actually have never fired a 1911 with a flat mainspring housing, but a bunch are available. Keep working on those tight shot groups! Mark

Pretty good for the first time with it. Excellent buy. Jay. With my Taurus PT140 at 25 ft I have a 3-4 inch group, at the 10 ft CCW qualifying distance with 10 rounds slow fire I shot to oblivion the 2" bull.... 10 round rapid fire all shots were within a 6" group and 2 of them took out the breast bone and the spinal area took a hit.... Don't believe that the .05 of an inch difference in the .45 is worth the additional recoil or the money... For self defense, load the 40 with the heaviest hollowpoint you can find.....Be careful with the hollow points, some states have made them illegal....... To carry while travelling outside Az., I have a SW 38Spl +P 5 shot hammerless dble action that fires a nice 5-6 inch group at 10'...... A cowboy I ain't - even with the Ruger Blackhawk .357 and a tied down holster......Having a range just 8 miles from home that is open to me 24/7 (yep, can night fire as well), Sandy and I go out 3-4 times a month... I've been carrying the Glock 23 in .40s/w....carries nicely..shoots real nicely....13 rnds in the mag and one in the pipe...the interesting thing about the glock is that after the first trigger pull ..it goes to half cock..you can double tap like nobodies business.....

if there's any more info I can get i'd appreciate it.

Ron. Yep i shot the 40C,not much difference in the two. The C has a little more recoil and is only one ounce lighter in weight. over all i like the 40 better, just as easy to carry as the C : :salute

thanks, oddly enough, i have a fairly small hand, but the glock standard fit me better, now I think the Ruger is at the head of the pack. they have a laser light for about 130 bucks, i'm seriously considering getting one. those for the glocks are much more, not only that Ruger is in AZ, I like to support my local merchants, LOL
thanks again for the info

Especially if you use the crouch and 2 handed CSI method to fire..... Remember- if you can see the red or any other color dot on your target, he can see where it is coming from- all he has to do is aim a few inches below your light and he will take out your backbone, or lower jaw or possibly put his first round thru your heart.... A gun mounted flashlight is just as bad, unless you have blinded him..... Learn to turn sideways and fire single handed.... And learn to fire with either hand... If you do carry a flashlight, hold it out and up away from the body trying to get it in his face, blinding him.... Seeing that red dot on his chest may not put the fear of God in him. The laser light is not blinding unless it hits directly in the eye or eyes
