Large diameter 11th Fighter Jacket Patch (?) that ended up in my collection somehow. Anybody know what the history of the patch might be?

No idea of the history. A side light anecdote though. On one of our annual firing TDYs to Tyndall from Duluth the pilots (I think) plastered a bunch of the 3 inch versions of the 11th FIS stickers all over one of the "friendly enemy" B-57s. They found most of the things during preflight, but several weren't found until return to home base (Stewart at the time perhaps). We were the recipients of a nastygram, of course. The ops folks always seemed to have a cadre of pranksters wherever I went.

That really nice, big, Red Bull patch went on the back of the pilots MA-1 jacket! Also - The 11th Fis decals were used because we were soon to become the 87th FIS! We had Stultz there and he was always good with a pocket knife and any old piece of cardboard. Many "quicky Dart stencils" were made by him and passed on to crewchiefs and MA-1 weenies as well. I personally did in a few rival "6's" myself! The names will be left out to protect the guilty parties involved! :drunk Oh - I personally carried one of those stencils in my tool box for years! :salute MArv :green-beer :green-beer :fire_missle_ani :patriotic-flagwaver

Thanks for the details. Saw a lot of our birds come back from Bangor "lobster missions" with big lobsters stenciled on the tail or speed brakes. Our crew chief's returned the favor on a beautiful freshly paint Maine '101 by stenciling footprints down the wing and over the top of the fusalage. When were you at Duluth Marv?

I was stationed at Duluth out of tech school in November 1967. I was there until we moved the whole unit to K.I. Sawyer in 1971. Then I left Sawyer in 1972 to go to Hamilton! From Hamilton to Castle with that move in 1974, then to Lowry as an Instructor in 1976. Retired froom Lowry in 1987! :drunk

:2thumbsup I was right across the street from you in the same compound as the 11th Missile shop. We were flying the '102 across the field but our Missile shop was next to the 11th's. When you moved to K.I. we got their F-101's
