The 2005 87th FIS reunion was a roaring success. We had the fuselage of 56-461 here and had it set up in a hangar. We had intended to have it open to the public on Sat & Sun the 25th & 26th of June but the demand was so great that we had to open it to the public on the the 24th.
That same evening the current 87th FTS came in with four T-38 aircraft and we parked one in the hangar beside our 106 representing the old and the new.
On Saturday we must have averaged 200 people at a time all day looking, seeing, and touching both aircraft. It was more than we could have ever hoped for.
Sat night the 25th we had the reunion at the American Legion Post 349 in Little Lake, MI. There must have been at least 150 alumni there including 8 from the 87FTS. Lots of old friendships renewed and new friendships made.
On Sun the 26th a few of us gathered in the hangar with our bird and watched them tow the T-38 out to take it down with the other three. (The time honored tradition of leaving your mark on another outfits bird was accomplished. 87th decal on the tail and Lurch painted on the side)
We were invited to watch the launch of the four T-38's and took lots of good pictures with the pilots and the birds. The small group of us then watched them take off two at a time, form up, and make our own personal four ship flyby. Wow!! The memories.
Now for the good part. We raised enough money to get the wings for 461 shipped up to us. We're in business!!! We'll soon be putting her together. The hard work has paid off.
