Thanks Jim & Bear! All I did was MC the event. This was our 7th 456th reunion in 10 years.
What makes a good reunion a GREAT reunion is the folks who attend it... and we had 83 of them! Add to that mix special people like...
Erv Smalley who hosted the event in Colorado Springs (while both he and his sweet wife Sandy were enduring cancer treatments).
Jim and Sandy Gier who built 9 clocks (4 for special individual awards and 5 for raffle and door prizes).
Lavern "Bear" Bruhn" who came up with special 456th ball caps for everyone who wanted them.
Guys from other squadrons who were never assigned to the 456th but served elsewhere with some who were.
Put that all together with a great location and you can't help but have a GREAT reunion!
Several years ago the MA-1 weeeeeenniieeees (as the Old Sarge calls them) on this forum were talking about having an all squadron MA-1 reunion at Lowery. I would submit to you that maybe Colorado Springs may be a good place to have such a reunion.
The Peterson Air & Space Museum and the Club on base can put on a mighty good reunion dinner. The USAF Academy is a good place to visit to see the Chapel tour and there’s a lot to see and do in the Springs. Of course I’m assuming you would be bringing the spouse with you! The Academy Best Western Hotel is located between the Academy and Pete and there is lots of shopping for the wives while the guys go up and see their old alma mater at Lowery.
Here’s a picture of the MA-1 mob we had at the Pete Museum.
Names left to right are: Herb Koss Lou Pizzarello Jake Smart Dean Mehlberg Milt Bonham Emil Kratochvil Bill Barton John Wietlisbach Kenneth Shade Jim Caloway Gary North Lavern Bruhn Marv Donnelly Al Mueller Erv Smalley
missing were: Mike Trefethen Paul Gray
It’ll take about a month to round up all the pictures we took and get Bob Justus to put them on the 456th web site. Will let you know when that’s all done.. Pat P.

As far as the number of youse guys in existence, you probably out number all the tirekickers and the other specialists that it took to put a SIX in the air............... Lowery would be a great destination to provide fertilizer for reviving memories.......... Don't wait too long and I will provide clocks for you............. The Old Sarge
BTW The wood for those clocks has been donated by Lavern Bruhn, toted from Nebraska to Colorado springs and then to Payson, Az, so you can see it to has traveled.............. Thanks Bear

Greeting 456ers and Friends, Thanks for attending our 7th, absolutely wonderful reunion in Colorado Springs! Your attendance made this a very special event for everyone and especially our special guests. Erv Smalley was an excellent host and even arranged for great weather (it was cold and snowing in the mountains after we left). Thanks to Lavern Bruhn for coordinating the ball caps. We sold 75 of them and donated 25 to the CAM gift shop. A very special thanks to Gail Whalen and the Docents at the Pete Museum for an extraordinary tour and support. And last but not least, thanks to the "Old Sarge" , Jim Gier, and Sandy for making all the beautiful clock awards. We really missed Bob & Polly Justus but Steve Keesey, Sandy Tom and Frank Dixon dropped by their home in Columbus, OH and presented Bob with the plaque awards. Bob is our resident photographer and I was not able to get as many pictures as he usually does, so if you want to email me some of yours, I will get them loaded on the Internet so everyone can see them early and send Bob a CD copy for the 456th web site. Thanks to your raffle participation and some individual donations we were able to pay all the bills, donate $335 to Peterson Museum and we have just over $600 left to send to Castle Air Museum. Crew Chief Dean Rager of Modesto, CA has agreed to coordinate a mini-reunion at CAM in 2011... or maybe a full reunion - it's up to him. He already has some new ideas that I think you'll really like and we have DRAFTED him into the 456th FIS Alumni Committee. Dean has not missed a reunion in 10 years and as you all know from your USAF experience, no good deed goes unpunished! ;-) THANKS DEAN! Finally, I can't tell you how much Judy & I have enjoyed helping with the reunions over the past 10 years. We will always be here to help keep the 456th FIS alive and well and having fun wherever we meet. God Bless you all, Pat & Judy PS: please email your favorite reunion pictures to me at popperry@verizon.net . Here are the 8 picture album links on my WebShots site with about 275 pictures. I have a CD ready to send to Bob Justus. The pictures always look better on his 456th site but I wanted to give you time to send me some more to put on his CD.
