The company I worked for at the time actually bid, but did not win, the conversion job for the QF-106. And of course I was involved (and no that is not why we didn't win... I think). For some reason I think Honeywell got the contract, but its been a long time. Anyway I remember alot of the discussion at the time centered on how to best leverage the existing AFSC and MA-1 computer so that among other things the QFsix could do formation flying. I'm not all that spun up on QFs, so my question is, was the Six the first full scale drone used in multi-ship formations, or were there predecessors? I believe that F-100s and maybe some F-86s were used as well..

I'm reminded about a TV show I saw on discovery one evening. The state of Florida has sunk old warships and frieghters in their waters alonf with the stripped shells of vehicles and aircraft. These items have made for excellent artifical reefs for fish habitat, a sports fisherman, along with great diving adventures.
I'm sure the shoot down of these drones also a simaliar effect. The jet fuel I assume mostly burns up in the burning freefall but what about the jet engine oil? Does that make it to the ocean? :confused

Which was turned into drones first, the Deuce or the Hun?
I assume the Hun. All the pictures I have have Deuces in them and very few have Huns.

Here's a closer shot of the 102's and 100's.
Hope I'm not boring you guys with these pics. My ex just sent me all my old pics from "back in the day". It only took her 21 years, but at least she did it.

Oh yes,,,I remember now those days. Spent many-a-hour riding the launch truck in MAC. In SAC out jet engine dispatch truck covered the launchs and alert force. Being in the truck for hours especially after lunch I always got tired and often fell asleep. Yes, Those were the days.

One had the gun and was parked with the Horny Horses (2nd FITS). Only a select few were allowed near it. A handful of us would launch the other two once a day. We spent most of our time at the drone runway watching the 100's fly. The manned flights were open to anyone. The unmanned takeoffs and landings we needed to be escorted into the area.
