Anyone remember the commander of the 318th, LtCol P.K. Gamble? He retired as a four-button and is residing in Alaska the last time I had been in contact with him. His last assignment before retiring was as CINCPACAF. Not bad for a "six" driver Yes I sure do remember him, and worked for him again during my time here in the Pacific. I got to Osan in 1993 and haven't left the Pacific since, even after retiring and now as a GS-14. Gen Gamble made a lot of trips to Korea, Okinawa, Japan, all over.

Haven't heard much about a reunion, but am interested. I spent 10-years of my first half of my 24-year Air Force career with the 318th. Your dad is definately right. To-date, it is the fondest memory I have of my long career. We were all a tight-nit bunch of folks that drove hard to produce the highest quality airframes. I spanned from the F-106's (sixes) to the F-15 Eagles and let me tell you, the standard didn't skip a beat. We earned the Hughes Trophy in 1984. That doesn't come without alot of hard work and bonafide teamwork. I miss this squadron to this day. I retired from active-duty at Hill in 2002, took a year off, then climbed aboard the reserve track with the 419th FW here at Hill AFB, UT. The 419th FW was more like an FIS. All the folks assigned cared about their airframes and by far. We had the cleanest Block 30 F-16C's in the AF inventory. If you hear about a reunion, please e-mail me at SKLEGIN2697@msn.com

You're not going to believe this, but while I was stationed on the "North side" of Kadena (heavies and helicopters) I was tasked to go to Koto Nita Baru (Malaysia) to inspect flight control cables that had accumulated ice build up, resulting in sluggish rudder operations on CINC PACAF VC-135. We boarded a -135 at 1700 and arrived late night. As we got off the aircraft, the PACAF Cmdr jumped aboard our aircraft and off he went. Well, we got our bags pushed off to the side, and started worked disassembling all the floor boards to access the lengths of cables. This was my first time on this particular model of aircraft and strolled back to the emmpenage cabin area and to my suprise, there was his jacket. I thought to myself wow...not in a million years would I have thought...well we worked well into the night and i visually inspected every inch of the cables to ensure there were no strand failures...we finally got some sleep and flew back to Kadena in his jet...it was a fantastic experience. Col (then) Gamble was an extremely tall, very distinguished officer, who everybody in the Green Dragons respected...it was an honor to work for him again.

No activity in here for over a year.
Sure would be nice to have a reunion of ADC Squadrons of The Pacific Northwest. Maybe some folks might pick up on this.

Yes, the lack of an Alumni Group is one of those head scratchers for me - especially the lack of a group here in Washington State. In the Tacoma area there is a 25th AD org, A 62d MAW/AW group even a 36th TAS group, but no 318th ! ! !
Another issue that bothers me is the lack of info on the history of 318 – but I’m planning to fix that issue soon.
I'm creating a 318th FIS website covering the history, pictures and other interesting information about the Green Dragons – from beginning (1942) to the end (1989) and any possible reactivation in the future.
I'm just about done with the main structure of the site, just need to get ok's for some of the content, and tighten up a few loose ends. I'm still gathering some additional info and pictures, but I'm thinking I'll have enough done for posting in a few months.
Besides keeping the history of the World’s Greatest Fighter-Interceptor Squadrons alive, I would like the page to be is a place that former "Green Dragons" can get together. Hopefully the site could be a tool that helps get a reunion going.
I'll keep you all updated as I get closer to launching the site.
Ernie

Jim...we need to press a reunion next year, combining both Eagles and Dart pilots, enlisted together...I really feel this reunion doesn't need to happen at the club, but at either hangars 301 or 304, with some photo shots of the group over at the McChord Museum next to our jets...thought's?

To Bullhunter and all others in the area,
Count me in on a reunion at McCord next year. I will be in the Puget Sound area in August next year for my 50th high school reunion (where did the time go). Even though I only did my four and out, my time at McCord '63-'66 with the 325 CAMs working MA-1 flight line on the 318th & 498th birds is one of my favorite times. I still keep in touch with several of the guys that I went through tech school with and on to McCord. We all did our TDYs to Alaska with the White Shoes project and several ORI disbursements to Comox RCAF, BC, chasing the Bears in the air and protecting our northern borders from the Canooks.

If it's possible I'd love to be part of a 318th reunion and learn from y'all, but as a civilian I'd need somebody to sponsor me onto the base. (I don't drive, and the one with base privileges in the family, my grandmother, suffers from severe senile dementia.)
