Hi 456th FIS Alumni and friends, Wanna sit in a F-106 or F-102? Maybe have a brewski or two with fellow squadron members? Visit the old squadron area at Castle? We're going to have a 456th Mini-Reunion on May 24, 2009, 9 AM to 5PM at Castle Air Museum during their annual Open Cockpit Day. You'll find most of us around the F-106 on the new Century Series Row. What is a mini-reunion? Well, it's a smaller and unorganized gathering of Sixer Fixers and Drivers. No agenda, no structured activity, no award presentations, no guest speakers - just a good old fashioned relaxing get together with "war stories" and lots of looking at airplanes. Bring your camera and sun screen. Who is likely to attend? Mostly the guys but spouses are certainly welcome too. About 65% of our alumni live in the 4 Western states and we expect that those who live within 500 miles are most likely to show up. That could be 30-60 folks. Does this mean we won't have a formal reunion anymore? No, we are planning our last formal reunion for 2010 at Colorado Springs, CO - and it will be a doozey! After 2010 we will switch to mini-reunions permanently to be held at Castle during Open Cockpit Day every Memorial Day weekend. We have held reunions at Merced, Dayton, OH and Dulles, VA to give East Coast folks a chance to attend. But our advancing age and the economy are cutting down on our travel opportunities. That's why our last one will be in Colorado Springs, CO. We have been to National Museum of the USAF in Dayton, the Udvar-Hazy National Air & Space Museum at Dulles and what better place to end than the home of the USAF Academy. We'll let you know as soon as a date is set. Here's a Google page with all the possible hotels in Merced. I'm leaning toward the new Merced Holiday Inn Express. Google No need to reply to this email unless you plan to attend. I'll keep a list and publish it to let you know who's coming. Right now, myself, Bruce Gookin, John Marcotte, Al Mueller and Lou Pizzarello are going to be there... and we hope you'll be there too! I'm working on Newsletter # 13 and should have it done in the next week or two. Guys, I have just finished four clocks to be used as door prizes and raffle fund raisers for the 456th FIS reunion next year in Denver......I now have a problem, I have finally used up all of the 6061 T3 .125" aircraft aluminum that I "liberated" when I retired from Willie Airplane Patch 32 years ago.....Some of that aluminum has been used in wall clocks for the 456th , McClellan, KI Sawyer, New Yankee AF, even for a Sac Air Refueling sqdn fund raiser as well as a silent auction item for the Tuskeegee Airman Red Tail Project. Some of you have been receipients of clocks that included a hand machined silhouet of the SIX.......I have a few more people that are deserving of a special award for their efforts concerning the SIX......So, if you have access to a/c aluminum either 2024 or 6061 with a maximum hardness of T4 and .125 " (1/8th inch), (SO is too soft and plugs the files).Be glad to pay the shipping....... The Old Sarge
BTW, any other sqdn desiring a presentation clock for a fund raiser or special award, please contact me...........There is no charge for this- other than possibly splitting the shipping costs with me.............

Thanks for the photos Pat!! We have the F-4E Thunderbird #3 here in Monett, MO "flying" over the South park. I really need to get down there and take a picture of it, only it seems lately when I have the camera in the car it's raining, and when I take it in the house to charge the batteries it's nice and sunny out.

To Bill Carper, Woops! I forgot I already posted pics from the 456th mini-reunion that Ralph Robledo and I made. It was great to see such a good turnout for the mini. Ralph and the guys in the resto hangar are the best! They can make pretty much anything they can't find parts for. What a talented crew! The Open Cockpit Day had over 3000 attendees which was the highest attendance ever, I believe. Ralph's picture of the IR Head almost looks like a small astronaut sticking his head out - very appropriate for this July 20, 2009, the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 landing. Thanks, Pat P. We had a 456th mini-reunion in 2009 and 2011 and now there's one in 2012. See the details and contact info here. www.456fis.org/NEXT_REUNION.htmCastle Air Museum Open Cockpit Day on Sunday May 27, 2012 9 AM to 5 PM 5050 Santa Fe Drive Atwater, CA All F-106 veterans are invited. This is not just about the 456th FIS and 84th FIS who served at Castle AFB. It's about anyone who drove or turned a wrench on the F-106 Delta Dart. We usually see about 35-55 F-106 vets attending. Most are from a couple hundred miles of CAM. Please reply to Dean Rager because we need to count you for cold drinks and the Dutch Treat dinner reservations. This is a one day event every year ar Castle Air Museum Open Cockpit Day on the Sunday before Memorial Day. www.castleairmuseum.org/ Unfortunately, I will miss this one but I'll post all the pictures anyone wants to send. You don't have to be a member of the 456th to attend this. Just have to love restored aircraft and bring sun protection, oh and pay the admission.
Greetings 456th Fliers and Fixers. Here’s a message from Dean Rager regarding a 456th FIS Mini-Reunion at Castle Air Museum Open Cockpit Day Sunday May 24, 2015, 9 AM to 5 PM Pat Perry
Take it away Dean!
Hi Guys, Just a quick note to let you know, there will be a 456th presence at CAM's Open Cockpit Day on Memorial Day weekend, Sun. May 24th from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This will be an ultra mini, super-casual gathering. No registration or sign ups to bother with. If you're interested in coming - just show up.
Lou Pizzarello is flying out from Virginia. Bruce Gookin is "ground flying" in from Utah. Local Yokels Mike Woloszyn and I will be setting up pop-ups and chairs across from the "Six". We will also have cold drinks on hand and there will be food available on the CAM grounds. Afterward, we will probably get dinner someplace for those interested in doing so.
This event is a good time to get together to support CAM, visit our "home base", tour aircraft on display including some newer planes like the recently acquired Air Force One. This is a good time to bring kids and grandkids, give them a chance to experience some aviation and military history. The CAM crew have done excellent work in restoring and maintaining these wonderful aircraft. It's also a good time to gather and reminisce or just "shoot the bull" with the guys. I did mention that Gookin will be there, didn’t I?
For those of you interested in overnight stay, Lou and Bruce are booked at the Hampton Inn, Merced. You may choose to stay or stay away from there, for that reason.
Many of us are already registered and looking forward to the All Troops F106 reunion at Colorado Springs, CO this coming October 7-11, 2015. The 456th will be well represented and Irene and I are particularly looking forward to being there. Bruce, Lou, Mike and I think this gathering at CAM can be a great prelude to the Colorado trip.
Again, NO NEED to register for this CAM gathering, just show up and bring your sun protection. Email me at meandean47@hotmail.com if you have any questions or just want to let me know you’ll be there.
See You There! Dean

Just posted this email - Pat P.
456th FIS Mini-Reunion at Castle Air Museum Sun May 28, 2017 9AM to 5PM
Hi all you 456ers and all F-106 friends and fans on the West Coast, Have you hugged a F-106 lately?
Well if you haven’t, you’ll have an opportunity to do so at the 456th FIS Mini-Reunion at Castle Air Museum Open Cockpit Day, Sunday May 28, 2017 from 9AM to 5PM.
Bruce Gookin, Lou Pizzarello, Dean Rager, and Mike Woloszyn will be there as will some other local West Coast F-106ers. They will have a popup canopy, water and cold drinks, lawn chairs and plenty of war stories to tell and pictures to take. No need to reply, just come on out and join the fun. Bring your sun screen, camera (cell phone), ball cap, and a roll of bills to spend in the gift shop. Don’t be embarrassed to donate to the museum. When you see all the new stuff they have added since last year, it will be apparent that they don’t just use JP-4 to keep the place going and growing.
If you ever went to Chanute AFB for training, you’ll remember the EC-121 Warning Star and the B-58 Hustler on display. Well, they are no longer there because they are headed to Castle Air Museum. The B-58 should arrive in early May and the EC-121 soon thereafter. www.castleairmuseum.org/b58-hustler www.castleairmuseum.org/ec121warningstar They have a bunch of other new stuff but I’ll leave that for a surprise to discover. CEO Joe Pruzzo continues to do an excellent job finding aircraft to add the CAM. Ralph Robledo (84th FIS) and the restoration hangar crew have plenty of work to do. Dean Robledo continues to keep our F-106 in great shape. Give them all a hug when you get there!
The last two F-106 B models from El Paso have landed in Victorville, CA at a Charter School and the Palm Springs Air Museum which also received a J-75 engine. I’m proud to say that 456er Bob Kinkaid and his friend just finished a F-4 restoration at the old March AFB in Victorville and both have volunteered to help with the F-106B resto at the High School in Victorville, CA. I hope both can attend the reunion at Castle. Now, if we can get some help with the Palm Springs Air Museum, that would be welcomed.
Like all 456th Mini Reunions at CAM, there will be no structured events, just beverages and visiting. Bruce Gookin and Lou Pizzarello will get there early and deliver a “skid” of donuts to the CAM Restoration Team on Friday May 26th. They’ll take Ginnie Marcotte out to dinner and to visit our CO, John C Marcotte’s gravesite. Saturday, they’ll hang out at CAM and Sunday is the Mini-Reunion.
I’m posting this on the Convair F-106 Delta Dart FaceBook page which has over 3000 members and asking Bob Kwiecinski (Bobski) to send it out to his All F-106 distribution. If there are any former F-106 troops and fans within 300 miles of Atwater, CA on May 28, you are invited to come hug a F-106.
I won’t be able to make this reunion but I hope to see most of you at the All F-106 Reunion in Nashville, TN Sep 6-10, 2017. I am lobbying to have the 2019 All F-106 Reunion in Florida because we have a bunch of Sixers there from all squadrons who can help coordinate it.
God Bless you all and have a safe and fun summer, Pat Perry

Met Big John and Ginnie when BIG John was in the hospital in Merced when Sandy and I were guests at a special open cockpit event. Bruce, I met at the 2010 reunion in Colorado Springs..... Ted Feasel, now that is a different story. I met Ted at Griffiss in 1956 when he was an F-94 pilot, then an F-102 pilot, and lastly when he was an F-106 pilot in the 27th FIS and the last time at the last reunion held in Colorado Springs..

Just emailed this to 80+ F-106 Fliers and Fixers on the Left Coast. Pat P
456th FIS Alumni and all F-106 Veteran Fliers and Fixers in AZ, CA, OR, & WA,
On May 27, 2018 the 456th FIS will conduct a Mini-Reunion at the F-106 Display at Castle Air Museum (CAM) Open Cockpit Day (OCD) and you are invited. www.castleairmuseum.org/events/may-open-cockpit-day
Our Mini-Reunions are one day events held every May at CAM’s OCD event. No speeches, just swapping “war stories”, taking pictures, and sitting under the pop-up canopy drinking water. There will be vendors selling food and beverage onsite. There are several new aircraft on display including a Lockheed EC-121 Constellation Warning Star, Convair B-58 Hustler delta wing bomber, a Lockheed C-130 Hercules, a CH-47 Chinook, a F-16 Falcon, and a MIG-21 “Fishbed”. A total of 84 aircraft and weapons systems on display.
By then, we should have more info on the fourth All Troops F-106 Reunion to be held in Tucson, AZ in 2019. If you are not on their email list, email Bob Kwiecinski at bobski9933@aol.com with your contact info for future updates. We had over 240 attendees at the Reunion in Nashville, TN last September 2017. You don’t want to miss the Tucson Reunion with the Pima Air Museum and Davis-Monthan Boneyard.

Had a great time at CAM OCD last Sunday May 27, 2018. CAM had over 3,000 visitors and the weather was nice, cool in the morning and warmer in the afternoon. We hosted a barbecue at Ginnie Marcotte's home for 456ers, CAM members and Ginnie's local friends and neighbors. Back home now and headed on a 14 day trip to East TN property and Bowling Green, KY Hot Rod Reunion. Will post more CAM Reunion pics later. Pat P.
