Wow, two from Bobski today. We are losing more of our older F-106 Alumni every day. Thankfully, we have the now retiring younger ANG F-106 troops many of whom are just getting old enough to have time to Google their USAF roots and keep the memories alive. Pat P. From Bobski:Hi, Was apprised yesterday the Peter J. Haerle went west on Aug 24, 2013 Lowell Bell Also from Bobski:Another sad addition to our Deceased Members list: William Michael Orr ,Jr., 78, an Annapolis resident for over 40 years, died August 21, 2013 of cancer. He was born April 4, 1935 in Terre Haute, Indiana. He attended St. Peter's High School in Fairmont, WV, and was a graduate of West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV with a BS in Chemical Engineering. Bill served eight years in the US Air Force as a fighter-interceptor pilot, leaving at the rank of Captain in 1966. He was the top graduate in his Interceptor Pilot Training Course in 1960, paving the way for his distinguished career as a fighter pilot with the US Air Force. Bill flew multiple aircraft but he spent the majority of his time in his favorite plane, the so-called "Ultimate Interceptor," the F-106 Delta Dart. While flying this supersonic jet, Bill was among the first pilots to reach speeds beyond Mach 2. Upon exiting the Air Force, Bill's experience in delta-winged aircraft earned him a position as a commercial pilot with United Airlines. He retired in 1995 as a Washington Dulles-based Captain flying international routes on the 767. Bill had over 38,000 hours of flight time, meaning he spent over four of his 78 years flying some sort of aircraft. Bill was President of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity while at WVU and served as President of Lloyds Creek Duck and Goose Club in Galena, MD. He was also a founding member of the Big Spring Hunt Club in Wardensville, WV and a member for over 20 years. Bill was an avid hunter, outdoorsman and never missed an opportunity to knock down a wall and remodel a portion of his beloved home. In later years, Bill enjoyed spending time outside on the back deck talking airplanes with his son-in-law Aaron, a Navy P-3 pilot, debating politics with his daughter Cristin, a policy analyst, and playing with his beloved granddaughter Sophia. He is survived by his wife, Robin McQuillen Orr, whom he married in 1971; his daughter, Cristin Orr Shiffer and her husband LCDR Aaron Shiffer, their daughter Sophia Orr Shiffera military family currently stationed Kaneohe Bay, HI; sisters, Mary K. Johnston of Salisbury MD and Jane DeRollo of Charlottesville, NC; brothers, Joseph Orr of Naples, FL and Kevin Orr of Mariana, FL. He was also a popular uncle to over 30 nieces and nephews, and their children. A visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27, at Hardesty Funeral Home, 905 Galesville Rd, Galesville, MD. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 28, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 W Central Ave, Davidsonville, MD. Following the mass there will be a brief ceremony at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville where Bill will be buried with military honors. An Irish-style wake will begin at 12:30pm at Killarney House restaurant, 584 W Central Ave, Davidsonville, MD. The family kindly asks you to bring your favorite "Bill Orr" story to celebrate Bill's life. Online condolences can be made at www.hardestyfuneralhome.comCards may be sent to: Mrs. Robin Orr 3990 Germantown Road Edgewater, MD 21037-4527 (410) 798-5706

An important message from Bobski to attendees regarding meal selections and money. Pat p. For those of you who haven't pre-paid YOU will need to pay cash at our registration table at the Meet & Greet. We need cash because we need to pay the Hope Hotel that night for the buffet and banquet meals. It is too late to send us any payments now as it would arrive too late before Ken and I leave for the reunion. One of our biggest worries are "no show's." PLEASE, PLEASE.... IF YOU SIGNED UP FOR ANY OF THE MEALS AND ARE NOT PLANNING ON ATTENDING AND YOU REGISTERED THAT YOU DO US A COURTESY AND LET US KNOW BEFORE WE TURN IN THE HEADCOUNT THIS FRIDAY (Sep 6) FOR THE MEET & GREET.... OTHERWISE WE WILL GET STUCK PAYING FOR YOUR MEAL.... Also note a number of you still haven't told us your meat selection for the banquet (beef, chicken or salmon) EMAIL REPLY TO BOBSKI ASAP IF YOU HAVE TO CANCEL.......Latest list of attendees is attached. Let's end this on a positive note by saying this will be a very wonderful, exciting and fun reunion. We are really looking forward to meeting all of you in a few days! Aim High! A lot of activity and photo's being posted on the Convair F-106 Delta Dart Facebook page from some of its regular members. Sure wish I could have been there. It's bad enough knowing you can't go, but seeing names and photo's of folks you only deal with from afar, and remotely, and then reading the comments being posted... UGH Have a great time guys! Don't foget I have a new photo gallery just waiting for pics of the reunion at www.f-106deltadart.com/reunion.htm

All F106 Troops, OMG! I can't describe the incredible photos Tom Scruggs has taken for our 2013 Reunion!!!! It is impossible to describe how fantastic it has gone. I am forwarding to you the website with our photos that Tom has created. Please go to the link below to see what we all have been doing the past 4 days! More to come yet! Bobski 2012 F-106 Delta Dart Reunion ( www.pics-n-rolls.com/f-106 ) I have a photo page set up so everyone can see what has been taken so far: 2012 F-106 Delta Dart Reunion ( www.pics-n-rolls.com/f-106 ) Please feel free to share this link with anyone interested. The photos should be available online through the end of the year. I'll be giving the committee a hi-res disc of all the photos, including Saturday's dinner, after I have them all processed. Here is the link to 501 pictures from the F-106 Reunion at Dayton, OH. www.pics-n-rolls.com/Portraits/130911F106ReunionWhen you go into the albums you will see a bunch of small thumbnail pics and one larger one. When you mouse over the larger one, you'll see an arrow pointing right so you can click the arrow and advance to the next slide. Read the instructions to download any pictures you want. Photographer Tom Scruggs did a simply outstanding job of photographing the entire event. Bobski and Ken Wigton and the entire reunion committee pulled off the best reunion you could ever imagine. We will have most of these pictures and those taken by many attendees on this website over the next few weeks. I also made about 35 voice recordings of the program presentations and many "war stories" told by attendees. For now, here's a picture of aircraft 787 (the Cornfield Bomber) and about 100 folks who got to check her out in a special showing at the Museum of the USAF. Pilot Gary Faust was also on hand to tell the story of the flat spin that forced him to eject. We have his recorded talk but I can't include it here because it is 4 megabytes in size. I was all signed up and attended the meet and greet events on first day. It was a blast. I even met with some old-time past co-workers. But On second day, my daughter called with emergency. Her babysitter was ill and in hospital. So the wife and I rushed up to Akron. I was torn between old F-106 family and real family. Since the wife let me go to first night, 9-11, which was also our 42 Wedding Ann'y, I gave in and went to help daughter. Both her, and her husband, teach school in Akron OH. That is a 3 hour drive for me. So I am sorry I missed out on the rest of events, But maybe next time. And Pat Perry, it was an honor to meet up with you. Lorin

Lorin Lorin, It was an honor to meet you as well! You made the right decision to go to Akron, now it is our job to fill you in with pictures, video, audio recordings to fill you in on what you missed. Get ready for the next reunion. It'll most likely be at Colorado Springs in the Fall of 2015. That's close enough to the Left Coast to get all our Forum members to attend. And Maybe even Patrick McGee can find a DOD reason to cross the Pacific and join us. Pat P. Factoid: 2015 will be the 60th Anniversary of the first F-102B Mockup. "The substitution of the J75 engine for the J67 was approved in early 1955. Seventeen F-102Bs were ordered in November of 1955, with their serials ranging from 56-0451 t0 56-0467. The F-102B mockup was ready for inspection in December of 1955."

Reminder to look at all the 501 photos on Tom Scruggs website at: www.pics-n-rolls.com/Portraits/130911F106ReunionAt the bottom of the page is a "Guestbook" link. Tom charged us nothing to do all the shooting he did over 3 days and to make all the picture downloads free. Here's what Bobski had to say about Tom when I asked him how much we raised for Tom when we passed the bucket at the reunion: Hi Pat, We raised $327. Tom is a stay at home Dad, 3 young kids, "Mr. Mom" He does part time photography for weddings, sports events, etc... He really is talented at capturing outstanding "personal moment" photos. I looked at his website tonight he made for us and I was very impressed at all the other stuff he has done for us on his page, different res photos, comments, etc... I ran out of time tonight, but tomorrow night I will write a comment and send a email out to our members asking them to take a closer look at his page, write a comment and thank him. Let's let this young man know what a great job he did by leaving a comment in his Guestbook. That will help him in future referrals for photo shoots. My daughter is a professional freelance photographer so I have some knowledge of pricing an event like this. The value of what Tom did for us with on site time, website, free downloads, hi-res file options, etc. would easily be worth over $3000. Pat P.

For all you F-106 people that didn't attend the reunion---you really missed a great time. Bob & his helpers did an unbelievable job of putting together a wonderful program. It was good to see people from over 40 years ago once again. I wish more people had attended though. For all of you reading this that didn't attend---MAKE SURE YOU ATTEND THE NEXT REUNION. I'm going to attempt to attach a picture of Bob at the Air Force Museum---looks like all the hard work got him down..... Attachment Deleted

The man is a class act! - Pat P.Tom Wrote: Hey everyone, I read the comments on the forum and along with my appreciation, I also had a bit of a chuckle. Before anyone thinks I can also walk on water, let me clarify some things said on the forum. :-P After my first back surgery I was part time stay at home dad and part time self employed doing computer support and training. I taught classes for the Wright State Center for Professional Development and New Horizon's Learning Center, plus others. My forte was a program called WordPerfect which I learned in-depth while recovering from my surgery. For the past ten years I have migrated over to photography, more as a passion than a job, taking photos for the local school system and the Dayton Children's Medical Center. I'm stepping back from the school sports photos now that all of "my" kids have graduated, that is kids that I had coached basketball. Don't tell my 33 year old wife about the "3 young kids." I may be able to explain away two of them, as we do have 2 sons, but they are 27 and 32 years old. The confusion may have come from me having 2 young granddaughters from my oldest son, and a grandson due any day now from my youngest. This "young man" does thank everyone for what was given in the collection plate. It was unexpected and totally unnecessary. I think what I will do with the money is pay for an extra year to keep my website going. I had planned on dropping it when it expired in February 2014 since I wasn't going to be doing the thousands of sports photos for the school anymore. This will allow everyone from reunion attendees to former students to have at least an extra year to view the photos. It will also keep my options open on what I want to do in the coming months. Thanks for everyone's support and thanks for signing my Guestbook. Enjoy the photos, Tom Scruggs

OK, all you guys who were at the F-106 Reunion heard my "impassioned plea" to come visit the F-106 main site and Forum. It's all about recording our history. At the Reunion we heard many first hand accounts of actual stories that people experienced. I made audio recordings of about 35 of these stories and the presentations made by guest speakers. Some of these files were quite large at 15 to 20 megabytes but maybe MOW set them up as streaming audios so you don't have to download them. I wasn't always able to get the story tellers name on the recording but I'm still working to identify them. MOW has made it possible to upload your written stories on this page www.f-106deltadart.com/thereiwas.php in either Adobe PDF or MS Word format. After you have uploaded them, others can read them by clicking on a story title. Readers are offered a choice of downloading the file or opening it using Adobe Acrobat Reader PDF format. I recommend opening it with Adobe Reader. If you just download it, the file name will not have a file extension on it but your PC will ask you which program you want to use to open it - then you can choose Adobe Reader or MS Word. So type up your stories and upload them - become a part of F-106 History.
An another topic... Since our next F-106 Reunion will be in Colorado Springs I thought it would be cool to revisit the story about 58-0761 that was once on display at the USAF Academy. It seems the Cadets were forever pushing it down the hill onto the Parade Ground or painting it wild colors. This story came up at the Dayton reunion. Here's Lonnie Berry's story on how that aircraft came to be at the Academy. Attachment DeletedHere's a page from Erv Smalley's and Marty Isham's lineage series that tells the rest of the story on 761, along with a story from one of the Cadets who was involved in one moving incident. www.f-106deltadart.com/lineage/580761Page.htmlEnjoy, Pat P.
