After they pulled the confidential material out of the sight, they probably lost interest in the rest.
Not sure who he'd call, Griffiss has been closed for years now.

There is B-47 wreckage remaining on Wright Mountain in the High Peaks region of the Adirondacks. I think the Air Force leaves them where they lie. If you Google B-47, it comes up right away. Besides, this gives me something to do while in the woods.

Pat and All, Here are two more photos. Some of the parts are laying in a stream and I am planning on returning next month to pull them out. I do not know why I didn't do that in 94 or last month, because it only seems right to do so. I can't figure out what thet piece of metal is with the partial name stenciled on it. Maybe part of a wing tank since it has two hook loops on the top that may fit into the hard points. If we knew where Col Lowe lives we might send him a small piece of memorabilia from the Adirondacks. Maybe include a card that says, "Next time you drop in, please police up your camp site". He'd probably get a kick out of that. Sure am glad he got out OK. Pat P.

I went on two crash recoveries while at McGuire 539th. I was sent to recover all classified. The first was an A model that went straight into Cape May Court House NJ dump after a mid air with B Model. The pilot ejected safely and B model did dead stick landing at Atlantic City Airport. After aircraft went straight into the sandy soil of NJ marsh, the fuel exploded and blew everything back out of the hole. I looked at Radar rack, which was compressed into about a 2' by 3' solid globe. The antenna was shredded and smashed in thousand pieces. Nothing was recognizable. But this non-rated 65 year old major in charge demanded that I retrive all the pieces. As a AIC (E-4) I couldn't be trusted to determine if it was properly "de-classified" by crash. So he ordered me to drive a brand new Ford Econoline through thick woods to get parts. The Sky Cops used machetees to carve me a partial path. It totally mesed up the fenders and doors on that poor old (new) pick-up. But I did as ordered. Back at shop with garbage pieces our old Chief Siegrid Foster asked me what the hell I was doing bringing that back and why I tore up our new truck. Before I could answer the major butted in and said Sargent, I ordered him to do it. Ole Chief said major, are your eyes so bad you don"t see that I am a Chief and not a sargent? Major just puffed up and left. I had to then sign off on wrecked truck as "In the line of duty" and took all "classified garbage to Salvage yard on base and signed paper that it was completely declassified. Second crash was not a complete write-off and was on McGuire. Pilot lost one main gear on landing and it grinded to halt on tarmack. They towed it to a hanger and I went to work and pulled all of Classified parts and took back to shop and used Sledge hammer to declassify them. Parts off of wrecked aircraft couldn't be reused. But as hard as it hit, most of the tubes filaments were busted anyway. Original MA-1 was totally micro-filament tube based system. As they modernized they went to solid state units.

I can ask some of my squadron pals if they have an number or address.

Pat Perry and all,
Thanks for your patience. I have 12 photos to post, 2 from 1994 when I first found the site. I leave it up to you which ones you want to keep. I maxed out the sizes to make more detail available. The first one is of me kneeling in a debris field. After 34 years, there is a lot of stuff out of sight under the pine needles.

When I was on site in September, I did not remember what I had photographed in '94, so dupes are unintended. I'll bet that fewer than ten people saw this motor since I did. People are in such a hurry to do so much, they end up doing nothing.

The afternoon of the second day of looking, I came across this engine. The feeling I got from seeing this sitting so pretty in the woods is one I cannot describe.

Some of the parts which have been sitting here for 34 years, but which I believe were made in 1959 (2012 - 1959 = 53 years) look like they were manufactured tomorrow.

This photo and the next are of the same piece, maybe a drop tank that somebody suggested.

Skin under a log. The tree fell on this since I was there before. It took a half hour to dig this out, and then I tried to straighten it, being just aluminum and all. I stood on it, jumped on it, and tried to pry it straight between to trees. What is this stuff made of?!! This piece is different from the drop tank, and I took 2 or 3 more pix of it if interested.

Let's have a contest for who can identify these next four parts. Prize is free camping at the F-106 site.
