I got digging around and found this. Now this I might actually consider trying. On a dark side I see frightening possibilities with the concept.

The Air Force response:

The secret weapon has a name and it's 1Lt Tom "Wheels" Wheeler, Al Dhafra AB, United Arab Emirates. The F-16C (84-1223) in the picture flew 49 combat missions.

I've got pilot's disease--can't see the sanity in jumping out of a perfectly good airplane!

But, to quote Toby Keith, there was a time, back in my prime...

I posted 2 of these photos under Iwo Jima, but I deleted them there and put them here as it is more appropriate and added a few more. These come from AAF Manual 45-50-5 (June 1945) RECOGNITION HANDBOOK FOR THE PACIFIC AND FAR EAST. Found it in a thrift shop. (Tip: always get down on your knees and dig thru the bottom shelf of the Non-Fiction area for the good stuff!)

First up Pilots is some info on ship recognition:

I quit with this final B29 page. Looks like some were olive drab from the photos which is something I have never seen. Book has 97 pages in all--a TEST in the back! I wonder what kind of recognition books pilots have today or do they come close enough to see their targets before they destroy them?!

I've seen playing cards with enemy airplane silhouettes on the back.

I have some WWII stuff of my Dad's in a box. I should find it and post a few photos of it. I believe i saw an Enemy Aircraft ID pocked book in his things some place.
I would be interestng to go through it again a share some of the items.

cc790, you have stirred my interest. :(

[image] We should maybe start a War artifacts thread and move your threads there. Others then will have a place to post these things and talk them up. Easy for all to locate.
Of course this will be up to our WebMaster.
