Welcome sheflyshi. I was stationed at Duluth 1963-1967. I loved it too. Have made two nostalgia trips back in recent years. Jim

I was in Duluth from 67to71, enjoyed the 2 seasons. Made lots of friends who still live there. We visit when we can.

I wasn't stationed in Duluth but the SQ. I was in the 87th FIS had a detachment there. On the 4th of July the F-16's from DLH fly over our town just before the parade. I had to do my tower work there for my private license. I flew my airplane, & my sim there many times. Also if in Duluth go to Sammy's for PIZZA. The best pizza you will ever get. Can get it on the hill by the airport next to O'Riley auto parts store, or down town. You wont regret it.

Did go to Sammy's Pizza (downtown on 1st Street) last time I was there. Still the best after 47 years that I know of. And....still in the family. Didn't know that the 87th had a detachment at Duluth after they moved to K.I. Sawyer. The Det was Volk Field, Wisconsin when they were in Duluth. The F-16s were from the Guard at Duluth no doubt.

I was stationed in the 87th FIS from 1980-1983. When I got to KI I was told that in the 60's there was a alert detachment of the 87th, the tail had a Red elongated triangle instead of the Red Bull. When I was at KI we ended up getting an alert detachment at Chareston SC but I never went there. I however did get to pull alert at KI. Movies, foozball, etc. was great duty. You are correct Sammy's is the best.

Had Sammys Pizza many times. Great pizza. Lived about 5 blocks away in the west end. The Gopher Lounge was a good place to have a beer also. Still eat at Sammys when we visit Duluth.
